ADS L2030 Restoration

I will make a PDF of the Owners Manual and post this weekend. You are going to LOVE the sound, particularly the dynamic range. Placement is very important and the manual has some good suggestions. I am running Audioquest cables right now but have used other good cables as well with great results.
I encourage you to do some serious listening using the ‘Line Source’ versus ‘Point Source’ settings for the midrange. I like the Line Source mainly because it reduces vertical reflections from the floor and ceiling. The only problem is that you have to be sitting down to enjoy the full effect. As you stand up you will notice the phase cancellation of the drivers that is reducing sound level off-plane and the associated reflections. When you have someone flip the switch from ‘Line to ‘Point’ you can really hear the difference. Sometimes for a party where people are primarily standing, I’ll run the system on the ‘Point Source’, which is only one midrange versus the four.

God I want a pair of these!

We do have a decent scan of the 2030 owner's manual in company archives. It's too big to post as a linked file but I can email it to anyone that needs a copy. Just hit me up using the Conversations option.

Exciting day here!!

Now if only I noted polarity when I drew this diagram. Anyone happen to know which is positive and negative? Richard thinks white is negative, but can't remember for sure. He's going to look for the schematic later when he's home.

Confirmed white wire negative.

Big update coming tomorrow!

Good deal Matt, I couldn't really respond to you as I was at work at the time and wanted to go though some pics to confirm wiring scheme for ADS speakers I've worked on. Going on my experience knowing that Purple was designated at Positive for mids, it makes sense that white would have been Negative. Still ... glad you confirmed.

Ok, got everything installed and wired up. The verdict: UH - MAY - ZING!!! Seriously, these things are really good. It caught me off guard just how refined these sound. Extended highs, gorgeous midrange, and clean, tuneful bass.

The switch panels are fully functional again. I'm not sure what the issue was but, before the rebuild, I had to wiggle the right speaker's point/line switch back and forth to get the tweeter to work and keep the clipping lights at bay. All is well at the moment.

I haven't worked on placement (at all), but they image very well sitting right where they are. I'm still tweaking the risers and, once complete, I'll dial in placement. I had a friend build a pair of risers out of oak, but he reversed the dimensions I asked for: 1.75" H x 2.5" W vs 2.5" H x 1.75" W. I'm going to ask him to rebuild them and try again.

To summarize, they are fully functional and sound great, but more updates to come. I also plan on shooting a video when I get time. Taking requests for which song to play. :D

So proud for you to have those matt!! .. Just magnificent! I'm with Glenn, has to be a Tin Pan in there for ADS reference. Damn Nice!

Matt, have you switched the speakers to where the mids & tweets are facing outward instead of inward? I found that when I had 1530's, they imaged better when facing out.

Thank you, all!

So far we have two votes for Tin Pan Alley. :music:

I haven't tried that yet. Once I get the risers done and installed, I might give it a shot.
