ADS L520 Fuses

I need to replace the fuses in these newly acquired speakers. I cannot find a manual or documentation for this model, other than a generic sales brochure for the 420/520/620 series. The current fuses do not appear to be original. I believe I've read that they should be 1.6A 3AG fast blow fuses. 1.5A fuses are hard enough to find, but 1.6A's don't seem to exist! Can anyone verify that these should be 1.5 or 1.6 amp fast blow fuses? Thanks!

They exist, many sources on the internet.

Top fuse holder is for the tweeter. Bottom fuse holder is for the wtweer.

Unless you intend to crank it to "11", the 1.5A fast blow will work just fine.

Ace, True Value or any other hardware store should have them . The big box stores "might" have them.

I love my L620's and think the L520's would sound about the same, with just a little less bass. Enjoy!

I've subsequently found a *few* sources for the 1.5A, 3AG's but certainly not many. I had to search for AGC to find most of them. I see GGC 1.6A listed as 1-6/10 amp, which seems like an odd way to say 1.6 amp, but obviously it's the same value. I'm not familiar with GGC, but they are 1.25" x .25" glass fast blow, so I'd imagine these will work. The are also the cheapest. Initially, I was finding them for $15 for 5, which just seems silly! I wasn't sure what wtweer means, but I believe one is the active fuse, and one is the spare.

I'm curious as to how the L520's compare to my L780's in the bass department. On paper, the L520's are rated to go quite a bit lower despite having a lower MSRP back in the day!

I'd love to hear the L780's and am curious as to how they would compare to my L710's. In many ways I prefer the L620's to the L710's. The 710 is a fuller more musical speaker, but the 620 has more detail and digs deeper. Not as bass forward as the 710 but definitely goes lower. I enjoy playing them together, but only for short periods of time as it tends to heat the amp a little much.

I'd love to hear the L780's and am curious as to how they would compare to my L710's. In many ways I prefer the L620's to the L710's. The 710 is a fuller more musical speaker, but the 620 has more detail and digs deeper. Not as bass forward as the 710 but definitely goes lower. I enjoy playing them together, but only for short periods of time as it tends to heat the amp a little much.

The L710's seem to get most of the attention, followed by the L810's. I've seen quite a few of those two models for sale locally and only three or so L780's. They are not so common on eBay, either. I read really good reviews of the L780/2's before deciding on buying them, and some of the reviews compared them to the L710's. A few preferred the L780's citing better clarity, which I'd imagine is from having one vs two woofers.
I really like mine and use them with an SVS 12" subwoofer crossed over at around 50Hz. They have good bass on their on, but the sub gives them some 'breathing room' (at high volume levels) and obviously deeper bass. They have an amazing sound stage, to me, and I often hear things that I've not heard before on familiar recordings. Other times, I hear instruments and background vocals coming from locations that are much farther from where the speakers are. I'd almost think there was some sort of surround processing going on or perhaps surround speakers, but this is certainly not the case. I note this affect with those L520's and on the L300c's on my desk at work (also with a subwoofer), but it seems to be more pronounced on the L780/2's. I'd imagine that the large dome midrange on the 3-ways contributes to this. It's very immersive, and their sound is pretty addictive, if that makes sense.
I listened to the L520's quite a bit last night, but it was in the garage with different electronics, so it's hard to compare. I'll have to switch them out soon and see how they sound in the same environment as the L780/2's. I will say that the L520's seem to have bit more detail, as you noted with your L620's, but the L780's sound much bigger, if that makes sense. Vocals seem to be a tad better with the midrange as well, which is expected. I'd be curious of your thoughts on the L780/2's, when you do get to listen to a pair. I've never heard a pair of L710's or L810's and would like to; perhaps that comparison would keep me from trying to purchase a pair of the larger models... too bad we're not closer!

Unfortunately, there's not that many ADS for sale here in Colorado. I did hear a pair of L1090's a while back however, based on the fact that they were very boomy, I'm pretty sure they weren't original. And I passed. If I ever do come across a pair of L780's, at a reasonable price, I'll get them.
