ADS L630, L780 L880 on CL Which One?

Presently there are three ADS speakers on Craigs List: L630 (best offer no price), L780 (@ $150), L880 (4 @ $500). I am wondering which to look at? I think it's really a choice between the L630 and L780 because the L880 is a purchase of 4 speakers @ $500. Any advice? What's the sound comparisons? What is the impedance of the models?

Alternatively I have been trying to find some Ohm speakers. Anyone familiar with Ohm L, C2, H in comparison to the ADS models listed above?

I'd buy the (4) 880's and sell off one pair. But I like the 780's alot also.

Ahh...you're from the New Hampshah area. I've been looking at those same ADS, too. The guy with the 780s had 2 sets for sale awhile back and he must have sold one. I'd make him a lower offer like $100 and see what he says. They're running all over the place on the Bay for price, from $100 up to almost $400.00.
 
The L880's are a bit of a step up from the L780's but I've heard both of them and it would be difficult to make a choice based on performance.

If you can get a good deal on the L880's I'd go for them. I've owned a pair since new in 1984 and I still use them. I did have to re-foam the woofers once but I really enjoy the sound they generate.
 
This is probably a minority (if not just lunatic fringe!) opinion, but I ditched a very nice pair of L-780s after I found a pair of L-710s. I found the former far more average sounding compared to the latter.

So, of that list, I'd look most seriously at the 630s... but that's just my opinion, of course.
 
It looks like the 630 and the 780 use the same dome mid range driver. The 710s are more highly regarded than either of these, IMHO, but $150 seems like pretty good price for the 780s.

The 630s may have foam surrounds on the woofer.
 
I own L710 speakers and like them quite a lot. This purchase would be for my office replacing some Cambridge Audio model six that I inherited. They're OK, but a bit tubby and bring up memories so I want to replace them. I'm leaning toward the L780, but really think any of them will be good.

Nobody own Ohm's to compare to ADS? I was hoping an Ohm C2 owner would make comment.
 
Are all the L630 vinyl? One thing I like about ADS is the wood cabinets and I saw something awhile back that the L630 was vinyl not wood. any one know for sure
 
There is a crossover upgrade for the CSW Sixes that improves their sound considerably (not that they're bad 'as is' - the tubbiness can probably be ameloriated by gettin' 'em up off the floor and/or away from back walls)... won't help with the memory associations, though :-(

Yes and ironically, L630 are the one model from ADS that sounds most like a turntable. So transparent with much pace, rhythm and timing... loads of dynamics, wonderful sounding for analog heads.
The good news is the cheap looking vinyl can fairly easily be replaced with nice wood veneer, totally worth it.
