ADS l690 in RI and CT

The L690 is probably the best 2-way iteration ADS made. They were originally designed for NAD along with the L990. They use the same drivers as the L570/II so replacements can be found. The cabinet is a little larger that the L570 also so some of the midbass boom is tamed. You could do worse for $200 but I'd see if there was room on that.

There are two pairs of Nad 20 for sale by me. Are those the same drivers/cab size as the L690?

Braun made the 20s & 30s for NAD and ADS made replacements for NAD when they could no longer get the drivers from Braun. So yes, there are a lot of similarities. That said, the 20s sound different. A bit tilted up on the top & bottom but not as much in the middle. Very typical German sound or more accurately, Taunus Sound; AKA tinkle-boom.

Gotcha. Thanks for explaning the differences. Its interesting how two speakers using the same drivers in the same enclosure can sound completely different:).
The guy is offering two pair for 300 bucks. They are black laminate though. Fortunately I do not need any more speakers:thumbsup:

I also believe that the tweeters used in the NADs are not damped as they are in the L690s. Love my L690s (and L1230s) that won't be going anywhere. My L690s need a bit of refurb work on the veneer and I'd love to find a pair of grills in better shape. A PO attempted to repaint the grills and in doing so, the inner fabric is gone as well as the middle pair of standoffs from both.

It's more detailed than that. NAD came to ADS first. ADS developed the speakers but they ended up costing more than the NAD price target. ADS owned Braun hi-fi at the time so they sent the design over for Braun to copy & build with their analogs of the the ADS parts. Braun was able to hit the price target. What they made was not exact copy however the ADS drivers could be retrofitted into the NADs for service replacements. The crossovers in the 20s and L690s are differ accounting for the sound variation.

Has anyone found a workable replacement for the grill standoffs for the perforated metal ADS grills? What about the fabric that was used on the inside of the grills?

I'm just happy I haven't (yet) had to try and replace the grill cloth of my 1230s.

Do you happen to know sensitivity rating? Most ADS are pretty easy to drive with a tube amp, but can’t find specific rating for this model.
