ADS Model 300 Speakers

Original model I’m pretty sure. And I don’t think you need to replace the woofers. They look like rubber and should be good to go.

I never had plans on replacing the woofers, they are rubber surrounds, you may be confusing me with another poster, I was however contemplating giving the crossover an upgrade.

The model 300 is excellent. I bought two pair with rotted foam for cheap, maybe $20 a pair if I recall. I was able to refoam with rubber surrounds and listened to a pair in my office for 5 years before everyone started working from home.

I guess I will revive this old thread by saying that I just purchased a set of 300s that look to be in great shape, just some minor scuffs. The surrounds look fine but I will be searching for replacements, I will also replace the electrolytic cap but I assume its on the woofer and probably won't make much difference in sound. Sorry, sounded to me like you intend to replace the woofers or the surrounds.

Yes, I can see why you would think that, I said that I would be looking for replacements, I forgot that I had wrote that but at the time I was thinking that they would have foam surrounds based on what some other people had said, I did not have the speakers in my possession yet, the photo was one from the original ad. I was happy when I unboxed them and they had rubber.

Just installed the new caps and binding post. I thought I would try a cap that I never used before and bought obbligato for the tweeters, when they arrived I thought that I made a big mistake, they are a lot larger than I was expecting, I was going to buy something smaller but I was able to make the giants fit, it involved installing the crossover board with the components facing the drivers. I used mills resistors and for the woofers I used a 24uf axon with a 1.0uf clarity cap just to keep the values exact, a 24uf would have been fine for the woofer though.
The binding post that I ordered were to big to fit in the recessed area where the spring clips are so I just mounted them by drilling a hole were the bottom hanging slots are, this was the best location due to extra material that look like large post inside the cabinet.
I am amazed at the sound these tiny bookshelf speakers put out, they do not sound like a small speaker. The new caps have made an improvement but I need to put some hours on them to determine if burn in will make them even better.
