Advance Speakers (Advance Speaker Korp, Inc.)

high pockets

New Member
Hello folks.....picked up a pair of Advance speakers from an estate sale. In terrific shape. Does anyone know much about these speakers. They are a three way configuration tweeter, two small midrange and a 10 inch woofer. Have a typical East Coast look along the lines of AR, Advent, Genesis, EPI, KLH. About all I have found is that Advance produced speakers in New Hampshire in the late 70's and early 80's. They have no model number, but do have serial numbers. I don't know how to add pictures on here, so I can't show them to y'all.....(maybe someone can help me with that?) Anyway, any information would be much appreciated.

Definitely EPI related, though the set I owned had a Philips fabric dome tweeter. There's information on the Human Speakers website

EDIT: here you go...

Thank you! Ohighway. I sent a message to Huw at Human speakers and have not heard back from him yet. I think he gets a lot of spam emails, so mine could be in that grey hole. The spaekers he shows are two way....these are three way. They sounded kind of muddy when I tested them. Opened them up and deoxit sprayed the pots for the highs and midrange knobs and these speakers cam back to life. Caps look like new. Cosmetically they are just really nice. They have a light amber walnut with tweed copper brown clloth grilles. Unique and in pristine condition. Do I need to be a subscriber to post pictures? I think these might be somewhat rare. Can't seem to post any pics. Thanks for your reply.

I wonder if it is really a 3 way or is it a 2 way with a passive radiator . That model would be closely related to the Genesis 210 .

Zebra03 brings up a good point. Could the largest drivers be passives?

This is a 2 way speaker with a passive radiator .

They had a few different variations. The early ones look a lot like EPI/Genesis. The later ones started to become a little more unique. The largest Advance speaker I have seen was a floor stander about 40" tall with a piezo super tweeter, Philips 1" dome, 4" come midrange and two 12" paper cone woofers with pleated surrounds.

Hmm. Even rhough yours say "Advance" ...... I'm not sure that they're "Advance Speaker Korp". Then again I'm not sure that they're not either.

Something about using that phenolic ring tweeter and the two midrange drivers just doesn't fit in with what I've seen from other Advance Speaker Korp. speakers.

LOL.....it is a mystery. The box is about the only thing that matches up with what I saw on Huw Powell's site. Even the logo badge looks slightly different.....minw are almost the same font as my Advents. Thanks for the reply...appreciate it. So, we have a mystery for all the vintage slueths out there. Wish I could give a prize or reward to the detective that finds the answer :). I'll continue to dig.

That happens around here sometimes.... mysteries. I have some mystery speakers. Even though I inquired here, I'm not sure we collectively solved anything.

One thing I remember from the pair of Advance speakers I had, The font on the logo was very distinct and unique.

I'm not sure what to think about these speakers. I don't think they are knock offs or DIY......badge looks legit and why would there be a serial #? Oh well. Guess I'll keep them for my barn. Thanks Ohighway for your input and interest. Have a Merry Christmas.

Oh I don't think they're DIY. Not at all.

Well maybe someone else will come along with a key piece of info. Maybe Huw will respond with some wisdom (BTW I forgot to mention. He's a great guy but often painfully slow to respond and/or ship out product)

Have a great Christmas....!!!!

Those don’t look like any Advance I have ever seen and neither does the logo. The logo looks like a graphic rip off of Advent The Advance logo was more gothic looking.

Depends on the model I think. Human Speakers has a picture of one model with the Old English font and then one model with a slightly distorted, but similar looking font to what I have......who knows. Thanks for your reply. These things are still a mystery. I would say they were DIY or some kind of cheap Advent type of knockoff, but they look somewhat professionally made......serial numbers......super nice cabinets and grille cloth....again, who knows. They sound pretty decent. Clear highs and nice midrange....bass a little weak. I hooked up a small Velodyne sub to them and everything came to life in a really nice way. I keep listening to them and listening to them. Not quite as good as my Advents, but getting better and better. Thanks again for your input....Have a Merry Christmas!!

Sorry if my message came off as harsh. I was tired.

If they are Advance, or whatever they are, then enjoy them!

What did Huw have to say?

What did Huw have to say?
Ha ha ha......he told me bluntly they looked like crap. He does not know if they are Advance or not......"maybe they are or maybe they are not". He didn't seem too interested. He told me that he doubts they are a DIY or knockoff. He doesn't think anyone would go to the trouble of putting serial numbers on them. So, the mystery remains. Thanks for your interest and asking.
