Advent 1002

Picked up at TS earlier today. Bad surrounds but all drivers work, and they don't look too bad, either. Anybody here have any of these laying around, or have opinions? Here's a (bad:D) pic:

EDIT: Looking at the Advent Database, these speakers look EXACTLY like the original Baby Advents. By any chance, is 1002 the model # of the Baby Advents?

EDIT AGAIN: An eBay seller sells the 1002 foam stating it as 8 inches, while the woofers on mine are clearly six or so.

W00T!

I've never even seen 1002 before! That's definitely going to go in the database. If you can send me some pictures after the refoam, one speaker grilled, one naked, I'd greatly appreciate it you can send them to jpdylon ( at ) gmail ( dot ) com

They look identical to the original baby advents indeed. Wonder if it is indeed it, just re-labeled? Got a pic of the back near the speaker terminals? That's usually where the info tag is if it survived

Here's a pic of the back panel with the terminals. The serials are consecutive.

Usually most of the smaller advents were. I think all of the small ones were sold as a pair in one box VS individually.

cool find.

Come to think of it, I haven't ever seen speakers sold individually. (Center speakers don't count.:nono:) Although, I may be too young to have seen any.:D

It seems my right tweeter sounds off. It doesn't have as much output as the left, but the response seems to be largely intact. Any ideas?

ohm it out and compare with the other tweeter. SOmetimes the coil will overheat and partially short. If they both ohm the same its a crossover cap.

I can't seem to get the tweeter out of the cabinet.:stupid: I don't want to try to pry off the front panel for fear of damaging the finish, and I haven't been able to push it out from inside. What do you suggest? :scratch2:

If its stuck about the only thing you can do is some gentle prying around the edge with something flat like a paint scraper.

YF, contact AK member ReEdger about your foams. He may be able to help. Use "Aleene's Tacky Glue" for the glue. It can be had at Michaels and other craft related stores.

Yesh she does she wants me to re-foam them...:D:scratch2:

I have never done a refoam before though.

I Once passed up a pair of nice speakers because they needed a serious refoam!

I'm in the same boat as you. I hear it's quite easy once you get the first one done. I'm going to try to do the shimless method because I want to avoid murdering my dustcaps, and the spiders on these Advents seem to be in good order. I can play them without surrounds and they seem to stay in place. (Not too much, though! :nono:)

BTW, what speakers do you have, and what did you pass on? :D

The kit came in the mail today

I'll be starting shortly here on the refoam. If anyone requests photos, I'll post them.

Both surrounds are installed and the woofers are playing beautifully. :music: It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I went shimless and used the 30-cycle test tone CD that came with the kit. The coils pretty much centered themselves. Thanks to all that lent me advice, and I'll be refoaming a lot more often now that I've got my feet wet! :D
