Advent 25th Anniversary Speakers good buy?

[brando090]

There is a guy on craigslist, and he has a pair of Advent 25th Anniversary Speakers in mint condition with original boxes and there isnt even a scratch on them (i think). For $300, good or bad deal?

Seems a bit high but if they are what you are after, it could be a very reasonable price.

What would be a steal price? $150?

What model are they?

Advent made a fine speaker. I had 2 pairs and liked them. They are similar in sound to many other 2-way speakers of that era (KLH 6, KLH 23; Boston Acoustics). In terms of price all of these speakers are in the $100 range, depending on condition and regional demand. I think that the $300 price is a bit high - in that range there are many other choices that should be considered. One can find many of the vintage consumer JBL models of this range, for example. This is a different speaker with a different sound (than the Advents) which regionally seems to create a higher demand (and resultant market price).

Have some patience, hunt and research every option here on AK. A good way to check prices is to search 'allofcraigslist.com' to see the national pulse of regional prices on the speaker. I did that and for the Advent 25th and found the following: http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ele/2223185034.html ($150, flawless says the poster - still a little high).
