Well the guy who lives next door asked me this morning if i still
picked up stereo gear,i said yes i do,well he said i got something for ya.so he came out with a pair of advent 3 speakers,said here ya are,i said how much,he said there yours.well plugged them in they sound great i need to replace the grill cloth pretty rough looking
well free what can i say.

The Advent 3 is a sweeet little speaker. It won't rawk the house but they have some very amazing performance.

Just bought a pair of Advent 5002s on CL for $75 - they are wonderful speakers. I find that they are a little light on the high end, I am running some PSB R30s as a second pair to augment them. Together, they make a nice pairing.

The Advents sure are big...they are the biggest speakers I've yet owned.
 
I have a pair of them now waiting for a re capping Nice little speakers and clean up real pritty! Haven't heard them in good shape but judging by what they sound like untouched, they are going to be really nice bedroom speakers. I used them in my kitchen for some time, as is, to offset the KLH 7001's in there. They were a little too bright and Advent/3's were a little dull so they balanced each other. Pretty sure they only sound that way because of the caps. We'll see!
 
I am listening to mine with my Yamaha RX-397....hard to beat these at low volume listening. The middle range on these babys are soft and silky. When you remove the woofers be very careful of the wires going from the cone to the voice coil/magnet....they are fragile and if you damage them the woofer will go. I do not know if Henry had alot to do with these but they are really one of my favorite Advents.
 
I had a pair for a while, but I couldn't dedicate them to a system anywhere in my house so I got rid of them. I liked the midrange sound better than EPI 100s.
 
I jus scored a pair of these at Goodwill for $8 the pair, but one of the woofers is blown - like blown up. Any idea what makes a good replacement? TIA :)
 
Parts Express and other speaker websites have various 6.5 inch woofers that may fit the bill....look for one that is 8 ohms...there is one that is 85db which may be the best fit since the Advent/3 are thought to be about 85db on the sensitivity scale...I believe the 6.5 inchs 85db woofer can be found at Simply Speakers. I would post the link but I do not want to violate any forum rules but just check out the website section for replacement woofers.

The best bet is to look on ebay for an original Advent/3 woofer....I found one for about $21.95 but it took me six months of waiting and watching for one to show up.

Well Well...I had pickup Advent/3 at a local shop 3 weeks ago. There OK :boring:..I do not hear what other's feel..More on this later.
I was going to replace the woofer, tweeter and crossovers from Parts Express:
If you take a look at the crossover build it just plain discussing. Sloppy Sloppy build. I was just going to use the cabinets for that Retro look.

I just got in from CL a Nice pair Design Acoustics PS10. I replaced the Woofers from Part Express with Dayton Audio DC250-8 10" Classic Woofer.
Huge Huge Sound and perfect match. I would sell the Advent/3 and find Design Acoustics PS10...You will Thank me later....

Thanks, but I only bought the Advents because they were $8 AR Goodwill. I wasn't looking for speakers, and these things are only going to be used on the basement where my weight bench is. Selling them and looking for another speaker isn't the point ;) The point is I got them uber cheap. Cheap enough that an $8 replacement woofer still means they were less than $20 all in. That's all that's warranted in the dark recess of the unfinished part of my basement :D
 
Got my replacement woofers from Parts Express today, popped them in, and presto! Good sound. Nothing to write home about, but they do the trick for the basement rig just fine, and look right at home being driven by the Sony STR-7800 receiver I have down there. Thanks for the tips, folks.
 
While I didn't like my pair enough to keep them I gave them to my girlfriend because I seriously did not trust her own ability to pick out decent speakers for herself. They're fine little speakers, I just don't like that many acoustic suspension designs.
 
I need replacement woofers for my Advent 3s. One of mine just developed a 3" tear in the cone. You guys have me confused. It's not difficult to do when it comes to electronics. Both 4 and 8 ohm speakers are recomended/linked above. Which is correct? I don't own an ohmmeter. I don't want to invest in originals, even if I could find them. These are for the garage system.

You can check the ohms on a pretty standard multimeter. I've got a little pocket guy that was given to me and it does the trick.

Easy to put in and sound great.
