Advent 5002 better than NLA?

I paid $50 + tax for mine. I felt like I got a great deal. I've only heard the 5002 so I cant comment on the 5002 vs NLA.
 
I have the 5002's right now ($25), need to finish the re-foam. Had the NLA's a few years back, my audio memory's not long enough to compare them. ;)
 
Never heard the 5002's but own a pair of NLA bought in 78 new. They aren't going any where. But probably the best pair of Advent speakers I ever owned were a pair of Meastro speakers. But never did an AB comparison due to selling then before they made it into the house.

The tweeter in the 5002 is a little less harsh than the fried egg, IMO.

I had stacked NLA and 5002 at one point. Best of both worlds, as it were.
 
Under $100 for sure. I paid $40 for dead mint with original boxes and refoamed them myself. The refoaming was easier than most. Great speakers. :smoke:
 
I paid $60.00 for my 5002's. I did a re-foam on the woofers and I rebuilt the crossovers with a rebuild kit from Carl's Custom Speakers.... So $60.00 for the speakers, $30.00 for a re-foam kit and $75.00 for the Crossover kit = $165.00 for the whole shebang. I feel my 5002's will last for a very long time and to me the $165.00 is well worth it. BTW, I also did a pair of NLA's the same way and I'm here to tell you the 5002's sound much better to me. Smoother top yet clear and defined and FWIW I sold the bull-nose Walnut NLA's.
 
Got them. Had to drive 1 and half hours round trip in this snowy day.
These are very clean and living room quality.
Only dings and some veneer chip is on the bottom back corners.

However, foam is cracked all around.
I'll re-foam and may stack with NLA. :scratch2:

Never had a pair of 5002 either. I had an orphan once. I have two sets of OLA that are very nice, I have Legacy III that are supposed to be as close to OLA as they come and they are right there or better, Maestros are excellent, I also have those to A/B with, but the Heritage, now THOSE are wonderful. I really am sceptical that the 5002 can beat the Heritage.

5002s needing foam should be $50 or less. Heritage needing foam, I'd go to $100.

Depends on your refoaming skill too. I can do a refoam in a couple hours for a few bucks. I keep bulk foams and glue on hand. $25-$30 for a "kit" is silly.

Got them for little over that. Don't need speakers but wanted to see for myself how better the 5002's are over NLA.
I'm also oppose to spending $25 for 2 surrounds but these are specific and need soft/pliable/stretchy surrounds.
I ordered generic ones for prodigy and they were stiff and thick. :no:

I have been looking for a second pair of NLA's to stack and have found some 5002 for sale $100. Does it still hold up in your opinion? Are they well matched for the efficiency?
 
I thought the prices listed here were low, then I noticed it is a necro-thread. $100 is cheap IMHO. I have a pair that I am bringing to a local swap meet. My plan is to mark them at $175 (I just refoamed them) and see what happens.
