Advent 5002 questions

There are a pair of 5002’s on CL in the Twin Cities, description says they are like new condition. No good pictures, a box and a speaker wrapped in plastic.

I’ve read things where people say they are the best sounding of all Advent speakers. I also know there are some 5002’s produced prior to Jensen’s purchase of Advent.

Are there differences between the non-Jensen 5002’s and the later Jensen version of the 5002’s??

There are also some who claim the best sounding Advent was the OLA. Unfortunately I've never heard any of the 5xxx, they seem to be harder to find than OLAs and NLAs, at least around here.
If you can give those speakers an audition, you cannot trust pictures or descriptions.
There appears to be a 25th Anniversary pair in Cambridge that appears to be in good shape., no affiliation.

Good speakers in good shape at good prices don't often hang around long unless they're a brand few people know about.

Thanks for the input. But looks like I lost out on the 5002’s. Someone beat me to them...so back on the hunt!

Get a pair of the OLA with the masonite ring woofers. That is the real Advent. You don't want the Jenson take over models. Trust me.

I once owned a pair of the 4002 and the dome tweeter was much smoother than the original fried egg tweeters. I also owned two pairs of OLAs, and a pair of Advent/1 with the NLA orange tweeter. The dome tweeter was developed by Advent before the sale to Jensen.

I agree that the strength in the OLAs was the woofer and the bass. The tweeters were fragile. I fried a pair myself, but the bass was just unforgettable.

I found this link on a different forum and it has a little bit of info about these speakers. It should be amongst all the information so someone can benefit from it.
