Advent Heritage vs. Laureate vs ?

Thrift-a-holic

Hooked for life
I see these pop-up locally fairly often on the craigs list. Seems most people want a lot for these. Are they good? I know they were likely made in the Jensen days of Advent which is not a great sign. I also think I saw another set of speakers with a simular design by advent, but under a different model number. I want to say it was legacy, but I think Legacy was a smaller speaker put out in that era.

Legacy was a 10" two way speaker, and I think its one of the best of the Jensen bunch (which really weren't all that bad at all)

I wish I could rememebr for sure what that other Large Tower Advent was called. Like I said it looked simular to the others mentioned. It think it had that black laminiant sides, and I know it had the wood on top. For some reason the name "symphony" comes to mind, but that very well may be way off. I saw them at a GW once, but did not buy due to lousy condition.

The Advent Heritage is a tall, narrow two way speaker with two active 8" woofers and an excellent dome tweeter. The Legacy is a two way with a single 10" woofer and the same excellent dome tweeter. The Laureate is, near as I can tell as I've only seen pictures, practically the same speaker as the Heritage.
As far as I'm concerned, the Jensen-era Advents were superior in every way to the original earlier lines. Better drivers, nicer cabinets, probably better crossovers, better sound. IMO, of course.:D

I have some heritage that I really like, the wife thought they were too big so I put them in the stepdaughters room and she loves them. They're no slouch in the bass department...have a great clean tweeter...slight hole in the mids but most people love them. Great soundstage too.

I have a pair of Heritage Towers. Nice all around speakers. A little less boomy than Original or New Large Advents. They make excellent mains for a home theatre setup which is where Im using them. Especially if you dont want to use a subwoofer.

Dual 6.5" woofers with a tweeter in a 2.5 way configuration. Uses the same woofers as the Baby Advents. Smooth sounding, not terribly detailed, but very nice background/living room speakers. Currently have a pair set up in the living room with the TV, surround and my moms computer. She has bared me from ever removing them from there.

Hi everyone. I have a nice pair of Heritage's. I want to refinish the cabinets but i did't find any good high quality pictures of original color. Could anyone please take a photo and share it with me?
thank you

Why not?

I've had several pairs of Legacys, all have the "Advent sound" but without the sound of the fried egg. The reason I sell them on is there is usually another pair just around the corner with rotten foams.

Lee.

You must be thinking of the Maestro speaker. It's a 3 way with 10" woofer, 5" "doughnut" mid, and 1" tweeter.

They are black on the sides and walnut veneer on the top and across the bottom.

I used to work in a store that carried the Advent line, so I had a chance to listen to both speakers in question at length. If any audio component typifies "mid-fi" it is speakers from Advent in this era. They are inoffensive and unoffending. In other words, neither not too bad nor too good. As always, this is just my personal opinion. If you can find a pair for a pittance, they'd be worth it.

They are a very handsome mid fi speaker and were always marketed as such. I always admired them, but I would not expect them to compete with a KEF or Thiel. I think they are very respectable.

i almost bought a pair of Heritage back in 1991(came close!). i was looking for something for the upstairs apartment we were living in back then, something that had nice tight bass that did not shake the room but with a nice top end (which is why i passed on getting a pair of Def Tech--to much room shaking for an upstairs apt!). i agree that the upper midrange was a bit depressed (probably due to the too high 3500 hz xover to the tweeter from the 8" woofers). they were among the best looking mid-fi speakers ever. they sound quite good actually. i would like to get a pair and replace the woofers with Morel MW266s. those have a great midrange for an 8" and greater excursion. then one would have an actual hi-fi speaker.

I have the Heritage and Laurates and did replace the woofers on the Heritages with Morel and they make a world of difference. I did not change the crossovers since from the specs one 8" is a woofer and the other 8" plays more of a midrange. In all I probably should recap the crossovers but so far I have nothing to complain about.
