Advent Large "New" style - Deal?

VintInfinity

Tactophonic
I just picked up a pair of what I thought were going to be the original Advent Large, but they turned out to be the "New Advent" Large. They have the steel frame instead of the Masonite ringed frame.

They are the finished in the "Utility" vinyl walnut pattern veneer. A few chips on some of the corners and a few scratches. The grills are in pretty good shape.

He recently refoamed the woofers, so that is taken care of. I do think they need some time to break in. But they sound great. Less fatiguing than the EMIT tweeters on both of my Infinity pairs.

What is a fair price on these?

yeah i paid $100 for me....refoamed, but New Large cabinets are in great shape. And yes they take some time to break in :) I have to say that although I haven't "auditioned" a huge number of speakers, they sound fantastic and are my primary listeners.

He had them hooked up to a Pioneer SX-650 when he played a Classical Guitar CD for me. Using a fraction of its 35 wpc sounded much better than a newer 120 wpc Sony power amp I am using.

I like that they are easier on my ears. The clarity isn't the same as the Infinity EMIT tweeters I have been using, but the sound is very good and the less bright sound has to be why they are less fatiguing.

Thanks for the replies, I think I got a good deal.

Now I just have to sell some of the amps I don't need to get an old receiver. :scratch2: :thmbsp:

That is about right for the utility version- it is the walnut wood version that is getting a lot of attention. There is a pair sitting at $237 and will propbably sell for $250+, that's about $75 or more than they used to bring!!
The utility grade cabs were always fine by me, I have even recovered them with differant vinyl from PE for an even better/ differant look.
Enjoy yours, they are true classics.
