Advent Laureate for free

How did your recap go? I just picked up a set of these speakers. I need to refoam one of my woofers, and i think i might try to recap it as my first project. The crossovers seem like a good place to start, rather than inside a receiver.

Recap and reform was pretty simple. It was my first ever on both plus refinishing them. The tops were split and required some additional attention. The recap was a little harder than anticipated mostly because the caps I got were so much bigger in size than the originals. It took some additional creativity to make everything fit. I know what I would do different next time for sure in buying caps, lol. All in all they sound and look great to me and work correctly even after I did everything to them, LOL. Let me know if you have any questions.

I have all the questions! What would you reccomend doing for the recap, after your experience with these? Im planning on doing that at some point.

also i think i might try to refoam one of my woofers today, the person i bought them from refoamed but one of my woofers rubs & creates distortion.

I would definitely buy caps with longer extensions. Because the caps I bought were much bigger I had to add extensions to the legs already on them. That was a process, lol, especially for a newb. Also, the original caps had both wires coming out of one end. The ones I bought had 1 wire on each end which created some issues on reattaching to the board. I'll try and take some pics tonight when I get home and post them for you.
On the refoaming I did the 30 hertz process on all of them and they all sound great with zero rubbing or distortion.

please & thanks for the photos! :)

also can i just use my stereo for the 30hz thing? Or do i need a separate power supply for just the driver in question?

You can. I simply used my laptop headphone port and YouTube for 30hz. 2 alligator clips to the speaker from the headphone port and away she went.

How did you adapt the clips to 3.5mm jack? Is there a piece that exists, or do i have to DIY it?

Perfect! Thanks :) i think i have everything i needed to know for the refoaming. Recap will be a longer process for later on.
