Advent Legacy thrift store score?

RebelKat

Resident Tiger
I JUST found a set of Advent Legacy speakers at the local thrift. I am using Advent Prodigys already and really like the sound of them, so for TEN BUCKS it seemed like I struck gold, rotted foam notwithstanding. The cabinets are excellent, and the grills are nearly perfect. I quietly carted them out as quickly as I could. For those of you who have already re-foamed them, where did you get the kit? And how did the re-foam turn out?
I'm really curious to hear opinions of these beauties!

There's a lot of info if you do a search. Legacies are from the Jensen/Advent era. I think they are an excellent speaker.

They are the next step up from the Prodigy Towers. They were designed I am told to be voiced very similar to the Large Original Advents. They are very similar in their characteristics. Nice solid wood on the tops. heavy and seemingly well braced.

Most any true 10 inch foam will work. They are relatively easy to refoam. They have a pretty generous voice coil gap so you don't have to shim them unless you feel led to.

The sound is rich and they have generous bass and a really nice high end. The Series II tweeter is especially nice. I gave $30 for my pair needing foam. i thought that was a great buy. They are a good $100+ pair of speakers if you could pick them up yourself. They would cost a good $40+ to ship and they are heavy enough to be a pain. That's why I gave the second pair I had away to the Brother In Law. Hope you enjoy yours! Franksta

Ah! Good to know. I didn't shim the woofers when I refoamed the Prodigy's and I was hoping I could do the same here. Thanks for the info.

For ten bucks, you did OK, foams notwithstanding..... I haven't hear the Legacies but like the Prodigies that I had for a while.

You might try getting the refoam done at AK vendor "Speaker Exchange" located in Tampa. Toze visited them awhile back and spoke highly of their operation. They also sell refoam kits also, based on their ad at the bottom of the page.
