Advent Prodigy II restoration

Very early stages of this one, but I pulled the woofers and tweeters and checked them with my DMM all test good at 6 ohms.

So I started work on the cabs. I cleaned everything first with a Magic Eraser. That seemed to help considerably on the black surfaces in particular.

I scraped the the remaining varnish from the wood tops and bottom panel. Sanded them down, starting with 40 grit and getting progressively higher.

Some of the stains were still in the wood, so I lightened them a bit with a mixture of oxi-clean and warm water by letting it sit and then wiping it off. A bit more sanding should do the trick.

I also started gluing up the splitting seams.

Opted for a danish oil (walnut) finish rather than a traditional stain. Brings out the grain quite nicely. Here they are after one coat:

Another coat will darken them up just a bit.

All done. Woofers refoamed and reinstalled. A coat of paste wax over the entire boxes really brought them back to life:

They’re in the bedroom system paired with a Tube Mini amp for low-level listening.
