Beginner here in need of speaker advice.
My father just gave me his circa 1990 McIntosh 4300v receiver, as well as his 1980s AR XB turntable. Both items need work, so I am paying to have a certified tech restore each.
That said, my end-goal is to use these machines for three things: (i) for vinyl (obviously); (ii) as a tuner (I listen to the radio a lot); and (iii) with an AUX setup so I can plug my iPod in and listen to whatever.
I now need speakers. I've tried to do some research over the last few weeks, but there's so much information out there it can be overwhelming. I don't have a very big room, so I'd prefer my speakers to be smaller, but don't want to sacrifice sound quality. I think my biggest concern is making sure I find a set of speakers that provide a great vinyl sound, but which also sound good playing an iPod through an AUX.
I have been looking at vintage AR 4x speakers on eBay and Craigslist, which have terrific reviews across the internet, are smaller, and look absolutely stunning (girlfriend's major concern haha). If I find a pair in nice condition, or have a pair restored along with the receiver and turntable, would these match well with the MAC receiver? Will they sound great with an iPod?
