Advice needed on best speakers for the price

Hey I'm a newbie and I found this place in my research but couldn't really come to good consensus so I figured I'd ask, for $120 would you guys recommend a pair of jbl s312be, or a pair of infinity il 30s? Any help is appreciated

Can you listen to both ? It really comes down to you and your ears.

Listening to both -if you can- would be the best way to go.
If the specs I saw were correct, the JBL's are quite a bit more sensitive and would get the most out of whatever amp you were using.

I have the S38BE which has a much smaller woofer that the S312, but they sound great. The Infinity is only a 2-way with a smaller woofer, so I'd think the S312 would be far superior and go much deeper.

Sadly I can not listen to both, a friend has a pair of the JBL's so I was able to listen to his and they sounded like a set I would enjoy, but the guy selling the infinity's said he couldn't demo them sadly.

Well that would be a deal breaker for me.
If he couldn't demo, I couldn't buy. Just my 2 cents.

For you, I'd be a little leery of speakers that you can't audition. Not saying they're bad, but buyer beware, you can't be too sure these days.

With a lot of equipment, it is tough to make a decision in other people's systems as things won't sound the same on your own gear.

If you think you might like the Infinitys, can you take your own receiver/amp to audition them?

So...what kind of gear do you have? Power? TT? DVD fan? Analog?

Can you wait for a bit and raise the level of speakers?

What genre of music do you most listen to?

Do you live in an area (lots of choice) where you can listen to perspective speakers?
