Advise on a pl-512

I found a pl-512 that a guy is selling. He is waning $150, which is know is way to much. I currently have pl-518 that a restored and made a new plinth for. My question is if I took the pl-512, could I easily put a new nice plinth (I have some walnut I can use). The 518 was a simple to do, is the 512 the same. Also is there anything I need to look over before I buy it? If I replace the old cartridge and get new headshell wires, will it sound as good as my 518?

Hello, I don't have a PL-518, so can't comment on that issue, but, $150 is waaaay to much for the PL-512. I recently bought from Craigslist, PL-512, Technics SA-GX130 Reciver, and TEchnics SL-PD827 MASH CD player for $50 !!! The receiver and CD player worked great, but the PL-512 needed a cartridge, belt and a general cleaning/lubing. Also replaced the headshell wires and interconnect wires which I had on hand. Belt cost me $10 and Grado Black 1 $60. The TT does not have anti-skating, (though some do, depending on when it was built) . I am very, very happy with the PL-512, now that it is refurbished. So with a $120 investment, I have a nice vintage system. The TT was worth maybe $10-15 at best.
