Affinity Technology and Kinetic brand speakers

Are “Affinity Technology” and “Kinetic Loud Speaker” white van type rip off brands?

I saw ads for both in a DIY oriented audio magazine. The specifications, prices, and the wording of the ads just looked like complete B.S. The speakers even looked identical for both brands.

I like the magazines articles, DIY projects, and reviews of equipment. It just seems contrary to the purpose of the magazine and a disservice to its readers to endorse the advertisement of this stuff (assuming these are white van type crap).

Yes on both accounts. Not sure what name Kinetic is trying to emulate, but Affinity is an obvious attempt to dupe inexperienced people into thinking they are buying Infinity speakers.

I think they are trying to emulate Energy Speakers:

"Kinetic Loud Speaker - Sound Through Energy"

I'm curious why Audioxpress would advertise these brands in their magazine. I guess it’s a necessary evil if they are hard up for cash, but to endorse these crap brands that were created solely for the use of con artists to rip people off, goes against the purpose of the magazine.

On the last page in the mag there is an email address for feedback to the associate editor, I’ll try asking them why they would advertise this crap.

I got a reply from the associate editor:

"Thank you so much for being a loyal reader to audioXpress. We appreciate your feedback, and I have passed along your concerns to our advertising representatives. I believe December was the only time these ads ran in our magazine; however, we will investigate it further."

So it looks like it was just an oversight and they are aware of it.
