Affordable used speakers I can get?

Have you ever had a pair of full size 3-ways? That could be something fun, specially if your into craigslist shopping. I found a pair of Timeframe TF600 for $100, and my Sansui AS300 for $140.
 
Well when I was 14 I remember I had some Pioneer 12in 3-way floor standing speakers but my dad mistake and sold them thought I didn't want them anymore since when I was 15 he got me a new pair of JBL HLS410 these were my first new speakers before were all used or from my dad or when my dad got them at a garage sale like the Pioneers. But the HLS410 didn't have much low end so later in life I got a used referb HLS610 and has a lot more low end. I got the HLS610 as a gift from my moms current boyfriend they been together for 4 years but ya Doug got them for me on Ebay. I actually kinda wonder if I should of gotten the HLS810 at least since then it would have even me lower end but I read that the HLS610 were the best $300 at that time so I thought they were better than the HLS810 but maybe the HLS810 was better since had 8in woofer instead of 6 and half inch woofer.

So I guess to answer the question have I ever owned a floor standing full size speakers yes I have. I can say I wish my dad that time got me the HLS610 or the HLS810 that time but he didn't want to spend $300 or more I guess for me even it's my b-day and christmas together. But truly I wanted was something at early 1999 before the Studio series came out was the HLS820 floor standing since they were amazing but way over $800 so I knew I had to give up on them.
 
Working on a budget isn't easy, but its not impossible to get great sound in used or vintage speakers. Here's a few in your Omaha area, IF you're willing to go out to listen to them, and in one case stretch your budget. Also, in dealing with Craigslist ads, you may want to hone up on your negotiating skills, ask if there's any flexibility on the price, and you just might get a 10 to 25% discount, depending on how sincere you are about possible purchase and if your situation elicits sympathy. Are you a younger guy (less than 25) or middle aged (25-45)?

However, I strongly suggest taking some familiar music with you on a smartphone or iPod and a 3pin mini to double RCA adapter cable so you could plug into their stereo and listen to the speakers. Make sure the music you take is well recorded at at least 196kbit, wave or FLAC lossless to be sure you're hearing the music and not the compression of digital audio. And of course, listen to the speakers, make notes, and make sure they are working, and have the grilles and original drivers.

Infinity Qb speakers https://omaha.craigslist.org/ele/5774687707.html on the dot for your budget, these are also nice all around speakers, plus have upgraded EMIT tweeters, good bang for the bucks spent. Might be vinyl veneer instead of real wood though. Ad is 1 month old though so email quickly to see if still available.
Fried Q/4 signature series speakers https://omaha.craigslist.org/ele/5818761520.html Also on the dot for your budget, good smooth speaker from well regarded brand from the mid 80's.
Tangent RS4 speakers https://omaha.craigslist.org/ele/5820198970.html A bit more over your budget, same seller as the Fried (pronounced Freed) speakers, these are very good British speakers, smooth sound, one KEF tweeter needs to be sucked out (dome pushed in), won't play super loud though. Not sure if they have the grilles, and the ad just came up yesterday.

For my money, I'd check out the Infinity and Polk units first, then the Tangent and Fried, I just don't have experience with the Klipsch line. You might have to stretch for the Tangents though budget wise, and if you like loud rock, they probably wouldn't be my first choice as they don't do real loud, but they are very accurate.

Ya the Polk does look like the best from the pic but I don't know the sound of them. Once I owned a Polk T15 I think that's the model and they were ok bookshelf speakers. But ether way just wondering but how much do I really need to spend on a pair of speakers to get decent sound? Something not crazy but something that sounds good? Apparently $150 ones won't do it well so does it have to be something at least $200 or more?

Or maybe something like the Polk 7 are good enough speakers and they are good speakers for $150 or lower. Just how you guys started when I asked about $150 or less you said you can't really find good speakers that price range. Or maybe I misunderstood you guys?
 
Never mind for some reason the seller deleted the ad so only one left is the Infinity Qb speakers. But ether way I was still wondering about in general do you need to pay like $200 or more or are there good ones for $150 or under? Thanks
 
The Tangents are still up as are the infinity and Fried speakers. The price of $150 - 200 is a pretty good ballpark for good to very good used or vintage speakers assuming they work. Below $150, you'll likely get smaller 2-way speakers that can be good but limited in bass or full range. Higher than that and the selection of better speakers, both 2 and 3-way types, gets wider and better. Occasionally, you might get the proverbial score with someone listing a really nice speaker for a lower price than usual, but don't be surprised if it might need some work and $$. For that, you really have to know what to look for, and be ready with $$$ in hand to pounce on them in your locale.

Only way you can know how good a speaker sounds is to go and listen to them, try them, and keep repeating. There is no easy way to know a price range guaranteeing a good speaker to your own ears. However, there are many instances where you do get more by paying more. And that is why in many cases, get some good speakers in your budget, and then start saving for the next upgrade, be it speakers or your equipment.
 
Like buying used anything, it's just a matter of how much time you have and whether you want to buy something ready to plug and play, or are comfortable with a project. My other hobby is vintage bicycles and the same principles apply.

I bought a pair of Boston Acoustics A150 on CL for $25. Terrific speakers after a re-foam, which is really an easy task if you have moderate model plane type skills. Also have a pr of A60 that have really nice sound for their size. I have heard great things about the A70's but have not heard those.

One summer in HS back in the 70's I worked loading the distribution truck for all the Tech Hifi stores in MI. I can't begin to tell you how many pairs of Advents I loaded every day. There are a lot of vintage speakers out there. You will find some with a bit of persistence.
 
Hey ohmegoodness, Welcome to AK! lots of us also into vintage bikes, a few threads in Wheels, Wings forum, and elsewhere. Are you on Classic Rendezvous or Bike Forums? I'm into classic Italian bikes, Italvegas primarily because that was my first real high end bike.
