After about a year hunting for LP I found it!

I am with you on digging through thrift store collections. What I want is not going to be there.

I have found tons of good stuff for a buck and that includes some rare Early Beatles, stones, dylan etc. but you gotta look hard and frequently.

I have learned to at least try and be patient. A couple of years ago I started to try and get a clean original pressing of Aqualung. I went through 5-10 "near mint" copies from ebay, every one of which I had to return because they were trashed. So I gave up...months later I found not 1 but 2 different original Reprise copies at the local used store, within a couple weeks of each other, and both were cheaper than any of the other ones I had bought. Both were ACTUALLY in NM condition. Then a month later I found a NM UK original at the same place.

Same with my pursuit of a NM UK copy of the White Album. I can't remember how many copies I bought and returned, including an original shipped from England that I paid >$200 for...returned for refund due to trashed. Then I found an early numbered UK copy at the used store...for $10! It was in better shape than the $200 one.

I hope I've learned my lesson, but I can't guarantee it.

Would love to find that or any Miles Davis records in GW. I once got heart palpitations over finding just the record jacket to Bitches Brew, so...

"hunting in a zoo" i love that analogy.

There are some records I'll zoo hunt for, cuz I want them that bad. Then some I am waiting to come to me in the wild. That's why I have every Zep album but II. For some reason I refuse to buy that one (and many others) on eBay or even in my local's Zep bin. I wanna SCORE me a Zep II.

One of the big thrills for me in record buying is finding it for a buck or two at a goodwill, garage sale etc. we could all buy whatever we want on ebay, but whats the fun in that? Thats like hunting in a zoo!

I can appreciate where you come from with that... but the fun in buying records from eBay or discogs is in listening to the music that is on that record... :D

I've been looking for that album myself, without enough luck. I've found it four different times at a good price in a bin here and there, but the record is always in terrible condition. Thanks for the "keep hope alive" thread. The search continues for me; I am glad yours has reached its conclusion.

Steve

Tough find for a $1 anymore.
People are wising up to records anymore at the 2nd hand shops.
Can be found for $10 or less tho in clean shape.

At the moment, all i have are the mp3s, but i believe i gave the LP to a friend years ago. That is one of my favorite Albums of all time. Jobim pretty much invented Bossa Nova Jazz, wrote "Girl from Ipanema", and I love the tone of the Getz Sax, it is like no other. They worked well with Chick Corea and/or John McLaughlin on some recordings. What a great piece of wax!

I am looking for Larry Coryell's 2nd album, "Coryell", Coltrane and Hartman's "Lush Life", plus i am forever on the hunt for quality Zappa and Mothers Original pressing LPs.

Ooh, mono... I have three, but all stereo. Now I have another item on my wishlist.
I have had a stereo copy a long time, grabbed another a couple of years ago and just found the mono recently for a buck or 2. I think I left one behind recently as I didn't want to be greedy. [emoji12]

kind of hard to find in thrift

I goto thrifts several times a week and I finally saw one after two years. Funny thing, just tonight I picked up a copy of The World of Stan Getz at a thrift. Disappointing news is that I saw several LPs priced at $7 to $10, luckily the guy who prices the albums thinks Moody Blues in worth $10 and Getz, Mulligan and Bobby Timmons are only worth 2. :music:

While i mostly like rock, there is one bossa nova jazz album that i have always loved on Cd and was dying to find it on vinyl. Its on ebay and i even saw itbat a local record shop, but they wanted $25 for it, plus that would be too easy.

So instead over the last year everytime i visit a thrift or sale i always look for the getz-gilberto (and jobim) album from 1965. Won grammy for album of the year and all that.

Finally after a year of no luck the other day i walk into a gw and without even looking for it as i go through a stack of records, bam there it is!

Anyone else a fan of this album?

I'm a big fan of Getz and Gilberto and Tom Jobim, and this album especially! Glad your search was successful. Now, are you ready for a new quest? Check this one out. :D
I'm in Jersey too if you want to stop by and hear it some time.

One morning, (~20 years ago) when I was living in a 6 unit apartment building, someone left a very small pile of records leaning up against the "dumpster".

This was one of them. Awesome record...
