Air Quality ? Yuck!

I feel yer pain, but all the fires out west DO make for some freakin' spectacular sunsets here in Michigan ...

My eyes, nose, and throat are raw ... but Kennewick at 301 must be brutal! I heard Spokane had it bad as well. The news last night said the effect of the smoke in Portland is the same as smoking 5 cigarettes a day!

Man, I'm ready to kick the habit ...

Driving home today from the next town over I said to the wife, " I never thought I'd ever say this but bring on winter". I hate winter with a passion but the smoke is wearing me down. Glad I got all my firewood for the year before they shut the forests down. :)

Got ash up here in the foot hills.
I’m on the east side of the east side.

I’m at 800 feet which may be helping.

As a smoker, I’m not feeling it.
Nothing like the indoor smoking in bar rooms of yesteryear.

I knew years of smoking was good training.
When the world burns and everyone dies, I’m gonna get a buzz.

Reminds me of Hyderabad, India.

Now you know what it must have been like living in most any major metro area during the industrial revolution ...

That is pretty accurate to what I'm seeing in the Vancouver area..suburbs really, this eve was as bad as I have ever seen it.:(

Depends on what you consider natural. I was under the impression that most of the bad fires nowadays are due to lousy forest management. Put out a small fire today before it's had a chance to burn it's natural course, and the next one will be just that much bigger. Rinse, repeat, armageddon ...

Throw chronic water shortages and over-development, and you've got the makings of a real disaster ...

On Whidbey Island ( somewhat north of Seattle) it seems a little less smoky today but I'm seeing ash has come in overnight. Still trying to stay indoors as much as possible. Yesterday was hacking and a sore throat. We'll see what today brings.

That’s all natural too.
We be Natural things.

One enlightening moment in grade school was when a teacher was pointing out things in sentance meaning or some such.

They were using advertising pitches and how things seem to imply more than what is actually said.

Maybe it was a lesson in false advertising.

Point being, how what is said seems to mean one thing but doesn’t really say that.

The current ad was “Made with 100% beef”.
That seems to indicate it’s an all beef thing.
It doesn’t say that.
It could be made with 100% beef and a lot of other stuff.

Then they used an example “No one died from eating our cookies”. It seems to mean there is something about other cookies. It doesn’t say that. There is an ad out now that says “Proven that no other gas gets better milage”, implying that their gas gets better milage. It doesn’t say that. It’s probably more likely that no gas gets better milage.

SO, when I see the “All natural ingredient” sales pitch, I realize it’s BS. Most things “natural” I do not want in my food. Dog poop, e-coil, anthrax, crude oil.

Last I heard, humans are natural. So everything they do would be natural, just like everything else that exists. Snakes can make poison, spiders, fish, plants, and so poison production is natural.

Many animal and insect species will eat each other including their own species. So killing each other is natural.

It’s your point I’m talking about. Taking an idea or concept or intention or fact too far. I see a LOT of misconceptions being used as fact. And then using those misconceptions to make policy and law.

It’s a good “idea” to be “natural” as in “Don’t mess the nest”, but nature is cruel and dangerous so being natural may be uncivilized or a bad move.

I’ve been sifting through the BS my entire life trying to understand and there is so much BS that true fact is being hidden.

The truth is, “You can’t handle the truth”.

We are just a bunch of talented organisms crawling around on an iron ball in space for a brief period of time doing all sorts of silly and stupid things believing and feeling we are special or enlightened or intelligent or organized or civilized or somehow important or meaningful.

We are fairly clever apes compared to other animals, we know and do all sorts of tricks. But in the grand scheme of space and time, we are nothing.

As a whole, combined over time, there is a lot more that we don’t know than what we know. As individuals, we know much less than that.

Silly humans.

Blaine's on a roll !!

And with that I'm going to go outside and enjoy this beautiful Catskill Mountains morning while I still have it!

Or at least me!

There were three fires burning near Durango when I was there a couple of weeks ago. The Plateau fire was the largest, and it was hazy back in Durango later on our last day there.

Can't say we have fires here but to be honest, talking about air quality, I was out west for a couple of weeks, just about got over a virus of some sort and was feeling pretty good the last few days of the trip. Then I got home to Michigan and have felt worse and this damn thing just won't clear up--I'm still congested! We hit Toledo and then downriver approaching Detroit and I could smell our industrial stench in the air, and the humidity. Thankfully I'm heading back out there in a few weeks.
