This weekend I'm traveling up to Rhode Island for a brief vacation. From Friday evening to Monday morning.

I've always loved New England. Best part of the country imo. Civilized people, beautiful scenery, a quaintness about the place. Those little New England beach towns are so lovely.

BUT, I also like audio. What is up there for audio? Any good spots to check out used gear? Any high end dealers? Any good record exchanges for used vinyl/cds?

I got a car and a GPS. Rhode Island is a small place. What's it got?

Well, the NE regional sweatfest is Saturday in Clinton, MA. You can meet a big cast of characters. There might be northwards of 40 AK'ers there.
Go to the Events and Happenings forum and look it up.

Hi RamblinE, strongly recommend Round Again Records on Wickenden St in Providence for high quality used records and cd's. I will be attending the SummerFest, if you wanted to ride along that would be ok. Be warned, it'll be an all day thing.
 
Besides Round Again in Providence there is In Your Ear on Main Street in Warren, RI, and in Somerset, MA, just off I 195 there is Sunset Records which is small but very, very good. It's short ride from In Your Ear.
 
Thanks Sandbar92, I'll have to check those out. I liked In Your Ear when they were on the East side near Brown. Haven't been to the Warren location.
 
Rhode Islanders and visitors may also like to visit 'The Time Capsule' in Cranston. They primarily sell comic books but the have a big LP section and their prices are nice!
 
As I'll be visiting with my old man all weekend I don't think I can sneak away for an entire day for the AK meetup :( I was hoping it would just be a quick hop over the state line, but 90 miles from where I'll be staying is really pushing it.

I'm interested in checking out these other suggestions though :) Any high end dealers? I am looking for a place to audition some headhpones...

I can second Round Again Records. I sold Steve my mint Pioneer PL 71 turntable last year. I hope he is enjoying it.
 
Round Again is a nice store. I don't expect any amazing finds when I go there [owner knows the eBay prices for classic jazz vinyl full well [it'd be amazing if he didn't]], but I almost always buy something. Latest score - Thad Jones' Motor City Scene original mono on United in VG++ condition.
It's a good ol' record store. We've got to support those!!!

I still crack myself watching that movie. The opening scenes with the dwarf chaffeur are priceless, and they get serious mileage out of a marital aid later in the movie. Not normally a huge fan of movies like 'Dumb and Dumber', but MMAI really struck a chord.
 
Duh! The answer is simple: just bring your dad to the AK Meet in Clinton! You get a couple hours of quality time with your dad during the drive, and you get to hang with some of the nicest, most knowledgeable, and pleasantly opinionated audio nuts around. And you can check out (and possibly buy some of) the cool equipment. I will personally pop open a cold Sierra Nevada Pale Ale for you and your dad!

Yes, this State is remarkably densely-populated with people like him. Must be something in the water...perhaps the lobsters.

Paid a visit to the Sunset Records yesterday. I must have driven by that place 10 times in the last year, and never saw it. A nice little store. Mostly vinyl, some cds. Owner seemed very nice and was helpful. Scored a Lee Morgan - Taru, on the Blue Note Lt-series LP from the mid-1970s, still sealed. $11. Will compare it to my Japanese tocj cd.

That place is a jewel and the owner Bob is a great guy. He plays/played in a Beetles tribute band. Jim
 
Sunset Records is a perfect example ofgreat things coming in little packages. Don't miss this one! Bob is really into the music.
