Hi all, thanks for having me. I got my very first tape deck here in Singapore after almost decades of searching. There just isn’t much of a market here but I stumbled across an old chap who is a collector and was able to purchase one through a local e-commerce site.
anyway the deck is in top top condition , refurbished and I’ve listened to multiple 7 1/2 IPs tapes such as Dave Brubeck’s Timeout, Bernstein Classical, Ella Fitzgerald , Elton John and Star Wars (Dolby)
I have it hooked up to a 2a3 SET amp with Wharfedale E30 speakers that have a high efficiency of 94dB 1W/1M and dual subwoofers. Playback sounds lush
Why do people say this deck is not good and sounds terrible ? I’m confused cause I’m getting really nice warm sound with great sound stage. Only tape that failed to sound good so far is a Barclay Crocker dbxII encoded. Even the Star Wars which is Dolby encoded sounded great and this deck doesn’t have Dolby NR.
I’m looking to upgrade later, as I want to enter the world of 15ips. But for those of you who have this deck, what have your listening experiences been like ?
