Akai 4000DS II Mains Hum

Hi everyone,
I'm getting mains hum from the line out on my Akai 4000DS II when it's not even powered on.
I run it through a Behringer PX2000 patch bay, and the hum goes away if I break the normalised connection by plugging something else through those sockets. The hum gets louder when I turn the tape machine on.

I'm assuming the louder hum is something to do with the internal amplifier, but other than that, I have no idea how to start debugging on this one.

Does anyone have any guidance or advice?

Well, don't sell us out to soon Baeron! in case of a very specific tape-machine issue that might be true (they really know their stuff) but this sound more like a general grounding-or-whatever issue.

I'd start by trying some other patch bay, or completely other machine. You might also try placing the machine physically somewhere else. Maybe try another amp. It might also be in the audio cables running between the patch and the RTR. Actually: start there!
