Akai aa-1200

Looking for info on the lamps that are needed for a AA-1200 model? The dial and VU meters all have a yellow tint to them. They could be just yellow from age or the dreaded smoke!! Anyone that has one let me know the apperance of their lamps? Also looking for a service manual, if anyone has it in pdf form!! By the way this unit is definitly a monster unit, I feel like the Akai gear doesn't get the respect it deserves. And just to let everyone know this unit replaced a Marantz 2270!!!!

Aa1200

Had three of them. Great receivers. I'm still keeping one AA1150.
The lamps on yours are probably dirty, they should be normal white.
Don't have the service manual, but do have the scans of the OM, if you want.

I just had an Akai AA-1150 delivered to me yesterday that I won on Ebay for the princely sum of $15.50 (plus shipping).

I'm interested in knowing what the 3 replacement bulbs for the Display are model-wise also. The fuse that supplies the voltage to them is good. They are darkened toast. I have the schematic for the AA-1135 but not the Service Manual (from what info I gathered from the internet, it was a dual Service Manual for both the AA-1135 and AA-1150). According to the schematic they are 8V 250ma. I may end up doing an LED replacement.

The receiver is in good shape and I was pulling in FM Stereo signals with no antenna hooked into the back. What else is cool is the individual channel Bass and Treble controls.

The only down-side was it took me an hour to clean the yellow smoke stains off the top cover and face. I smoked for 20 years and I'm not one of "those" ex-smoker complainers but it was the 1st Receiver I've received from an ex-smoker and it was gross. As soon as I opened the box it reeked. It's nice and shiny now. :thmbsp: Hopefully the remaining odor will fade away in a couple of days.

This receiver seems to be really well built and much better than the POS Akai AA-R22 I bought new in the mid 80's.:thumbsdn: Stay away from the early Akai "microprocessor" controlled receivers. My buddy was the Akai US Service Manager and his group fixed a ton of them, including mine. The AA-R22 had a cool display but would lock-up all the time and the only way to reset it would be to power it off and on. That was, of course, until it didn't want to turn back on... :sigh:

I have the AA-1200 schematic, in a bound cover. If you bug the heck out of me I probably will break down and take it apart and scan it into a PDF.
