Hello, how are you?. First sorry for my English, i talk only Spanish. I tell you i bought and 70's complete Akai system in mint condition to a widow for 200$, the system was running for years with both speakers misconnected, both to right channel (right A and right B), when i open the amplifier the fuse of the left channel is burned, i replace the fuse and the left channel starts to work but emits a loud noise intermittent, sometimes hours no loud sound, sometimes continuous. I re soldered all amplifier related joints and applied contact cleaner to all knobs, but still loud sound appears. The amplifier chips is STK463. Have any idea what might be going ?

If the loud noise (I assume a static or popping noise) occurs even at low volume, and the noise occurs when the balance control is turned full CCW or Full CW, then I would suspect that the IC STK463 is causing the problem. The other possibility would be a noisy preamp transistor either TR1 or TR2 (2SC2240BL).
If the noise is more like a hum, and just on one side, it is definitely the STK463
 
Yes, the volume not affect the loud sound (it's like a bass hum), and it appears only on left channel; and if i press hardly with the finger the stk463 the hum dissapear.
 
Yesterday i went to a local electronics shop and i bought a brand new STK 463 for 20USD, the seller told me that is the last in the country, and i think it may be the last new on earth! At night, i put the new STK on the Akai, and now the unit works perfectly. Very thanks

thanks, nice unit the am-2650, previously i replace many electrolytic capacitors too.
