I have an AKAI AM-A3 amplifier. The problem I am having is this, it goes into protection and shuts down the amp briefly when it is overloaded by a pop from switching a button. Now, this mostly happens when it's cold.
I press the subsonic button or the loudness button and it causes a pop sound which engages the protection device to shut down the amp temporarily. It doesn't do it so much when it's warmed up. Now, the amp has an STK amplifier module attached to a heatsink. Is it the module itself that has the protection device built into it that shuts down the module or is it another device built in somewhwere in the amp? I suspect if I change the module with a new one it will eliminate the problem but I'm not sure. Any advice/ insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

The protection circuit is not part of the STK chip, but another circuit that reads the amount of DC voltage in the output and shuts down at some preset level. Before replacing the STK chip try looking for bad solder joints, since it happens when the unit is cold, also might want to check some of the caps in circuit as well, as there value may have drifted over the years. The caps control the delay time in the protection circuit, also might check the caps in the amp circuit.
