Also i pretty sure this takes stanton 500 type stylus cause i seen a post very close looking cartridge to mines saying that’s what it takes (also i know i need the stylus to make final adjustments just want to make sure i understand the setup before anything)

The tonearm with cartridge, shell and counterweight is just a simple lever-fulcrum-force system - exactly like a seesaw you probably experienced as a kid.

Turn/position/move the counterweight until the arm "hovers", meaning it's horizontal (neither pointing up, nor down).
Now hold the counterweight steady with your right hand and with your left hand turn the dial ring (the black plastic part with the numbers) until the zero mark/line is lined up with the line on the tonearm.
Now turn the counterweight (the dial ring automatically turns with it) towards the tonearm pivot until the line of the recommended tracking force (of the stylus you bought) on the dial lines up with the line on the tonearm. Done.

You do the same again with the stylus mounted and set the antiskating knob to the same number. Which stylus did you get?

You might consider buying a digital scale.

And clean the damn thing somewhat!

With a gauge you can skip all the steps and just adjust for weight. Good idea to wait until the stylus shows up, since the cart has no point to pressure your gauge.

Yep...though waiting for the stylus to show up and then set VTF is a good idea because the replacement stylus' mass will add almost directly to the vertical tracking force.

I doesn't hurt to know how to set VTF with tools the TT has built-in (counterweight with dial ring)...the batteries are usually dead when one needs them...says Murphy.

Anyway, when you're about to set VTF, disable antiskating (set the knob to zero). Do this prior to balancing the tonearm (point 5 in manual) as well...if you decide to learn how to set VTF with the counterweight and dial ring solely. Crosscheck with digital scale.
