Akai CS-703D Cassette Deck Auto Stop Not Working

Hello, Any Akai Tape heads out there? Have an Akai CS-703D cassette deck with nonfunctional Auto Stop.
Worked sporadically when I first got it and I assumed it was worn/loose belts. All were replaced with new
and all appears to function fine except for the Auto Stop. I could live with this, if it was play mode only,
but it does so with tape FF and REV modes, and makes an ugly grinding sound when doing so.
I suspect, when I was disassembling for the belts install, I made something worse and/or there is reduced
tension somewhere. Possibly it is the small tension spring, underneath the bracket holding the cam assembly
which provides the mechanical stop function. It may be too loose or installed incorrectly. Some of the archive
threads discuss this very issue but there was no response or it was inconclusive.
Any thoughts/guidance/photos would be much appreciated. Thanks

Any Akai Tape heads out there?
Present!

This is one of those mechanical auto-stop systems they used one the budget models. Usually the problem is indeed a slipping belt. Sometimes that is hard to see. Are you absolutely sure the current belt has enough grip to make it all the way through?

The system can also be clogged-up in the aftermath of a slipping belt. Try running it thru manually, just pushing the pully by hand. Much resistance there at any point?

Not much info in the CS-702 manual on the autostop, but I found this in the M-10 manual. Should be quite similar. I'd run the deck and watch closely to see if the mechanics behave in accordance.

Also: are you sure the belt runs correctly? Not much in the manual on that either.

Thank you. This is very good information. More than I have found previously. There are some similarities, but mine has a leaf spring
which is part of the cam & worm gear assembly. Belts were purchased new from a reputable source, Thakker, Germany. But I did get
some lube oil on 2 of them, when I was lubing the cam assembly. Will clean off some more

No lub indeed. I scrwd up same type of autostop mechanism in an Akai CR-703D MK II. Before me lube it, autostop worked flawlessly (I noticed to late it was the autostop I also lubed). After several cleaning attempts, it still didn't work. And set the deck aside. But I never did take the drive apart and removed and disassembled the autostop mechanism and clean it with 999,99% IPA separately! And that is what I very likely should have done! Maybe this helps?

Yes that makes sense. Thank you. Setting aside for now, Maybe the lube oil will evaporate - lol
