AKAI GX 265D issue

Hi all,

I recently got an Akiai gx 265d and have been slowly doing a basic service. There were a couple of issues at the start, the main one being not able to erase/rec in the reverse direction. It turns out it had a dirty heads switch. All cleaned now.

But the issue I have now is still in the record in reverse direction - I can now erase/rec. But the left channel is a little intermittent/low. But when I add some tension to right reel, it gets better.

Can any out there help us out? I've looked in the manual, but can find anything, regarding adding drag.

Or any suggestions of what else it could be?

Cheers
Sam

Looks like that unit has 14 problematic 2SC458LG transistors as well. Don't believe it is the cause of your current issue.

Tape head alignment..

So you recon the record/erase head is out of alignment?

Playback of some pre-recorded tapes (from another machine) seems fine. I can hear a little bleed through of the other direction. {but the other machine could be slightly out of alignment as well)

I am aware of the problem with those transistors - haven't got around to dealing with them.
