I had it working within a week or so of my initial post. It still has the original caps and transistors. I posted on youtube, as some members criticize Akai decks and Quantegy 632 tape. I think it works pretty well.
 
I put them in the sun to warm them up, then pulled them off. They're on pretty tight. No Allen screws on mine. The knobs are aluminum, I think, as are the toggle switches.
