Akai GX-77 or Pioneer RT 707

I just saw that...not too concerned though...I got quite a bit more on the last one I sold, so It will all work out in the end.

I cannot figure out why some go for more and some for less....maybe the sellers feedback or description?

Just a little information on these two decks.
Orion Bluebook 1997:
Akai GX77D 1981-1987 retail price $795
Pioneer RT 707 1977-1985 retail price $700

It's funny how trends run here at AK, years ago when I was in the market for a good 7" RTR, the Akai was king, and I bought a nice one, it has served me well.

i have been watching them too, it makes no sense.
the only thing i can come up with is location, people pay more for one they can pick up? or the seller will sell internationally? They used to be around the $400 mark, now they are $150-250

The one with video went for $305, well done but less then the one needing belts without the cover.

nuts

i think its timing

It has to be timing...oh well, I'll survive! I did have one person who asked if I would ship to the Ukraine...I would have I guess, but the cheapest shipping I could find for the guy was around $650...that makes it a very expensive unit!

Did you purchase the book or??? I tried to go online to see what Orion valued my 3 R2R , how much new and what years were they made.
Thanks
Louis

Louis,
Yes I purchased one years ago. They were hard to find then, haven't checked prices or availability since. It has been quite handy when checking prices of old gear. It saved many a wild goose chase from happening for someone who was just getting into the hunt.

I had the R2R inch about 8 months ago. I looked ong and hard and decided upon a Pioneer RT-707 - now get this....it was a NOS NIB deck. I wentto check i tout because I was skeptical. Sure enough, as advertised, all items in the sealed box. I bought it from a vintage dealer. I had him give it the once-ver while I was there. I paid $500 for the deck, a splicing kit, leader tapes, cleaning kit, reverse foils, 10 sealed Maxell 35-90B tapes and a Nakamichi High-Comm II noised reduction unit.. The 707 is built to last. A great deck and a joy to listen to.

Speaking of the 707, does anybody have a spare 'rewind' button? Mine popped out and I could never find the dang thing!:scratch2:

Not trying to hijack, just....since we're on the subject.

Good Find :thmbsp: I like the 707. I read somewhere that even a NIB 30 plus year old R2R would still need the "caps" looked at and maybe service/oil it. Before you start to use for hours every day... we all do when you first get a different one. I am sure someone that knows these will post up. I have no idea, if a Franko "cap" that goes in my Revox is never used and sets in a drawer for 30 years is it still OK????

That is an awesome deal/find! Congradulations!
Good that you asked the seller to give it a go-around to check it out. As for the "cap's", well I really woundn't put much concern on that right now, deal with it if or when the time comes. But for now, just plug-n-play that bad boy! Also those Nakamichi Noise Reduction Units are terrific! I have two NR-200 Noise Reduction Units myself!
Yes, and pictures would be nice?

Well done, you cant beat that with an ugly stick.

The tapes alone might sell on the Bay for $150-200 being sealed.

who is this dealer I need to get to know him! :D

I'm hooking mine up tomorrow. Had to have a stronger glass shelf made at the local shop. 3/8" tempered should suffice.
