I just received a Akai GX635D which is in pretty good shape considering it's 40+ years old. The problem is as soon as I hit the power button, the brake solenoid releases the brake and both reel tables rotate in a clockwise direction. Pushing the transport control buttons have no effect. Power off, everything stops. Power on, does the same thing. I have a feeling that the logic system may be fubar.
The circuit boards look unmolested and there is no evidence of catastrophic failure (burn marks, ballooned capacitors, etc).
I am capable technician (IMHO) but this deck is freaking me with the amount of diodes contained on the control board. I will chase the circuits if I have to but I just want to see if anybody has dealt with this scenario in their life experiences.
Thanks in advance.
