AKG 121 Studio headphones - inner foam material disintegrating

Hi,
I have a pair of ‘AKG 121 Studio’ headphones.
The thin foam material is disintegrating and shedding but the headphones are now discontinued and I don’t think this replacement foam is available from the manufacturers and authorised distributors.
Can anyone recommend the best ‘fix’ in my situation?
By the way, the vinyl/leatherette coating on the ear pads is wearing off but still usable and comfortable.
Look forward to hearing what my options might be.
Many thanks.
Here’s a link to the headphones on the AKG site.

cool! they look nearly the same as the akg 240's had back in H.S n which I paid 100 for at the time...lots of money, as I couldn't afford speakers. someone asked the same question in regards to the same hp's on the akg site- wasn't answered. akg tel:+01-888-452-4254 might have them. in the crafts section of big box stores, they carry a variety of materials that could be fashioned as a replacement. shouldn't be difficult.

Thanks.

Yes, was thinking along the same lines... but was rather hoping someone on the forum could advise exactly what had worked best.
Apparently.. different materials although appearing similar to a casual glance perform very differently sonically!

doubt they affect sonics. may just be to create comfort n a seal. the goodwill, has older headphone that may have the right or similar sized foam interior. if u can't get them from the manufacturer, got to try different materials.

The K-121 is very similar to the well-known K-141. In fact it seems to be a less refined version of the latter. Original text from AKG´s website: "The K121 MKII professional on-ear semi-open headphones are a cost-effective alternative to the K141 MK IIs for studio monitoring and playback. Designed for single-ear use, they deliver familiar sound and make intonation easy."

Earpads and foam nets are identical between those two types and easily available. Try Thomann.
