A new worm is spreading like the plague today- called Sasser- took my company's world-wide network down for a while. From what I read, this one doesn't even require you to open an email attachment - just going to an infected URL will get ya. 4 peoplein my office have gotten it so far. Make sure yr virus definitions are up to date, folks.

Thanks for the heads up. Being unemployed and not privy to these new viruses, I never would have known about this until it was too late.
 
Also... it is VERY IMPORTANT to have all the security patches up to date.

I am still pissed off with this virus... doing all my work by hand two days in a row was absolute hell, not to mention getting abuse from disgruntled customers. I hope the system admin at the bank gets the sack for his lack of "being on the ball" :mad:

It puts porn on your puter and then tells your girl friend were to find it :eek: :p: :D
 
It shuts your pc down and sets it into a restarting cycle, and displays this message:

Well looks like the 18 year old high school kid in Germany who created sasser is going to jail. It's called computer sabotage in germany and carries a 5 year jail term.
 
I am not saying that I condone the practice of writing virus and trojan programs or intentional spreading of malitious code. Most of the reason it is a problem for Microsoft and hense it's supporting customer base. Most virus are based on security flaws and exploits to software that was rushed to market. The only way this OS is any good is if it was free.:D
 
The latest story is this is not over.....he supposedly released another virus shortly before his arrest. No one knows for sure (or they aren't saying) what that one is like.

I have to disagree with Giskard. Microsoft has to take alot of the blame. Billy Gates and his boys wrote the code for WIN XP and 2000. Under a microscope, it looks like Swiss Cheese. And these virus writers have some high quality microscopes. And some are even smart. But then...I'm biased. I own an Apple computer.
