Alerts? Or lack there of

Question. Say someone sends me a private message. I get a red bell lit up. Go into that and reply. Then.... If i get a reply back, there is no alert. No red bell. I just discovered this yesterday and as it turns out. I have other private messages from 2024 that i never replied to because i didnt get an Alert.
So. I WILL get a first alert(red bell) when someone new contacts me, but i will never get another alert when someone replies. Hmmmm.

Hi zedex, I have moved your thread to "AK new format" as this seems to be the best place to get software type questions answered.

Now, to answer your question, what you need to do is to click on your account name icon at the upper righthand side of the page, and then click on "preferences". Scroll down till you find this area of the preferences page, make sure all the boxes are checked and hit save. If this don't work let me know and we'll try to figure it out :thumbsup:

Yup. All boxes are checked and were checked. Thats what i figured the problem was initially. This is the "chat" conversation thing which i never use. I generally use private conversation which i think does give alerts.

So i go to my alerts today, and everything is gone. Disappeared. You have no new alerts. Click on show all. Everything gone.

So I had some time and I found out a couple of things:

Help us help you by clarifying which medium you're using Chat? or Conversations?

Private messages will show up in "Conversations" which is denoted by the envelope next to ones username. I just sent you a test Private message via "Conversations" let us know what your envelope looked like

If you're talking about messages received in a "Chat" there is a separate settings feature you can access that allows one to access both "Settings & "Notifications" as seen here.

Fwiw I do not think "Chat" messages are private I could be wrong though as I never used it.

Yup i never use chat either but sometimes i get a chat message. When i got the chat message the bell was red. Clicked on it, You have a chat message from so and so. So i replied. He replied back but i didn't get the red bell. And i noticed several old messages where i never replied because i had no idea i received a message. As far as i know regular PMs work fine. Just this chat thing.
The CHAT is a personal chat , its not public as in the chat you see above. So if i click on your name i get a "start chat" or "start conversation". Some people send a "start chat" and i get a red bell notification. If i reply and they reply back, i get no notification. I checked my preferences. Every alert is checked including chat.
 
I see you got my "Private Message" via "Conversations" as indicated by a "Notification" not the red bell "Alert"

I just replied back so hopefully you'll see another "Notification" not the red bell "Alert"

So I messed around in the "Chat" section and it indeed can be private, however I do not know how it "Alerts" or "Notifies" as again I never use it.
 
I got your replies in "Chat" however I had to manually check as I had none of the below checked. I've since checked Private messages and I'll let you know if I get a "Notification"

Kudos to Dswankey for helping zedex with this! :D

I have tried to make sense of the "chat" feature but will freely admit it's beyond me as to why the notifications don't come through. My only guess at this point is that something isn't enabled in the software (The chat feature is still relatively new here) and will likely take the admin or webmaster to sort out.
 
Nothing yet :) I wonder if you can get rid of it altogether. Why do you need a private conversation and a private chat?
