Alexis Monitor Two Crossovers - Need Advice

Alesis Monitor Two's. Im such a goof... Sorry.

Hi Everyone! First post here.

To sum up - I have 3 pairs of Monitor Two's ( long Story ) but only one set works correctly. These are used in a studio setting paired with a factory refurbished RA500. I have NEVER heard speakers "resolve" like these do. Every song was like hearing it for the first time. ( I have done live and studio sound for almost 30 years, and these hold up with the best I've ever heard ). NOTE - These have been used at quieter volumes by an older gentleman listening to classical music with high end components, so everything is factory perfect and broken in... UNOBTANUIM SCORE!!!

ANYWHOO, the "Good" pair are currently out of state, and I am stuck with a pair that have crossover issues - Specifically the caps are so far out of spec that the sound is almost all bass. Being that these are studio monitors, I don't want to just throw in any old replacement caps, I want to get as close to the original as possible. Trouble is, I can't find this manufacture anywhere on the web ( nor a service manual ). They are "KSC" branded caps ( and resistors ). - Pics Below

I don't even know what type these are - Polymer, ETC... I only know they are non polarized.

Can anyone point me in a direction or a person that would have any insight into these things? I need them to sound as close to factory original as possible, in order to match my other set out of state. I've included some pics of the components with all the manufacture numbers on them.

I know this is a big ask, but any help would be appreciated. Below I've began documenting and labeling the Crossovers. I am missing a couple of values, but should have those filled in in the next few days. Maybe this will help someone else?

PS - I don't know what brand of caps are in the "Good Pair". I assume the same, but maybe they are different, but I won't know that until I can get to them later this year. I thought about getting Nichicon caps, but again, I don't know what "kind" of caps these are.

sorry I do not have the solution. However I have one pair of Alesis Monitor II (bought as new in 1997) and have come to the situation you described = all the sound is nearly bass only. Did you find any solution or the suitable replacement pls? In case you move forward there would be glad if you could share your experience.

2+ year old thread and the OP hasnt been active for just as long... strange nobody replied when this was new.

If the OP sees this and hasnt resolved the issue, those caps are just standard cheap price electrolytic caps, nothing special about them or the brand at all, KSC looks to be "king-sun" brand china caps. If you want to keep the original type caps, any decent (or cheap) brand of electrolytic caps will work just as well as the originals, Would be a good idea to get a better quality cap if keeping with the same type, or if you prefer a better cap that will sound better, consider a film cap that will have better sonic qualities than cheap lytic caps.

Have you tested the capacitors to determine that they are out of spec? Being so far gone that you only hear mostly bass indicates other possible problems like a blown tweeter.

Indeed, strange.
I have some thoughts to share had I seen it when first posted.
What EF said, OEM used NPE's. Non (or bi) polar electrolytics. Inexpensive and should be able to get something close to the same physical size as the original caps.
Poly or film caps would be a "step up" though more expensive and possible much larger in size.

EWI, can you test the tweeters to see if they are indeed making sound?
A toilet paper or paper towel tube might be good enough to listen for sound.
Or disconnect at least one wire and check the ohm reading for each tweeter.
Last and only if YOU ARE CAREFULL you could test each tweeter connected directly to your receiver or amp. Bass and loudness low or off and using LOW volume
disconnect each tweeter and hook up the wires from the receiver directly to the tweeter. BE CAREFULL THE TWO WIRES DON"T TOUCH EACH OTHER or the same conductive/metal surfaces or you will have even bigger issues to resolve. Only do this if you are careful and confident you won't short out the wires from the receiver.

I have the orginal monitor one mk I and they sound very good too
