Allison CD7's - Tweeter Replacement

I have a pair of Allison CD7's that I am trying to restore. Unfortunately, one of them has a DOA tweeter. My question is:

Do I try to find an exact replacement?

or

Replace both with something new and better?

I like to keep things original if I can, but would be fine with using the new in this case if it will actually improve the sound.

Which would be best?

I would be interested as well. I bought a pair, one with a dimple. Sound awesome but I'd like a spare to play it safe. I'm going to try a mini vac to pull it out.

I've read posts that indicate there is no good substitute, and I wouldn't be the least surprised as they are astounding performers.

Did you and ultravintage read my paper on repairing corroded tweeter wires?
That's a fairly common malady with those tweeters that had the screen covers.
BTW, don't worry about that dimple. It doesn't harm HF response significantly.

Anyone have any luck finding replacement grills? I have the small one over the tweeter, but the larger one that covers that whole blacked out section, with the tweeter is missing.

Those are similar to the 4's. They have raised posts to secure the front grill. Not sure about the dimensions and unfortunately mine do NOT have any identification on the back, just Allison and Made in USA on front.
 
They show up with some frequency on eSteal. Set yourself up a reminder, best way to know when something you're looking for is listed.
 
I think that I do need one. The wires going into my dead tweeter are completely corrosion free, and no breaks :thumbsdn:
 
I decided that I wanted to keep the CD7's original, and bought a pair of original tweeters off the bay for a little over $50 plus shipping. Got the dead one replaced, and all I can say is WOW. Definitely some of the best 2-ways I have ever heard. I was listening to them through my Sansui G-5000, and they sound great. I am really glad that I decided to keep them original. Now, after a little work with Howard's products they will be ready for my bedroom setup :yes:

I saw those. The same seller was selling several of each (round and oval). One of mine has a small hole in it, but nothing severe, so I will probably leave as is. Mainly all I have left is to do some treatmeant with Howard's products, as they had been stored for years and are really dry looking and had a couple of areas where the stain was slightly lighter.
