Just posted on the Allman Brothers Band website:

http://www.allmanbrothersband.com/

"WITH DEEP SADNESS, THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND MARKS THE PASSING OF GUITARIST "DANGEROUS" DAN TOLER, FOLLOWING A VALIANT BATTLE WITH ALS DISEASE.

DANNY WAS AN ABB MEMBER FROM 1978 TO1982 AS WELL AS THE GREGG ALLMAN BAND FROM 1982-1989.

HE WAS A VERY TALENTED GUITARIST WITH A GREGARIOUS PERSONALITY.

HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL THAT KNEW HIM.

REST PEACEFULLY BROTHER DAN.

THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND"

Oh no.... Man, I loved that guy. There's some killer playing by him on the Allman Bros. box set (the one from back around '90-'91). I actually stole a lot from his playing and used it in my own playing (Every musician is basically a thief and a magpie). That's a real drag. He was great. A big influence to me, especially in the '90's.

That's Dan on "I'm No Angel". He played with Greg Allman until the Allmans made their comeback with Warren from Dickey's band.

RIP

Our lives are hanging in the balance
Or they're dangling by a thread
A spark of life brought down from an angel
To raise the stranger from the dead

Once more we're cheating on the Reaper
With all the gyspy still in our souls
Cause I know there's a God up in heaven
Who must love rock and roll

Once again we sail home to Sarasota
As the ocean awash the gunwale
And she still keeps her head above water
Guess we'll all live to tell this tale

As here's to the you for always hangin' in
Without you there's no reason to go
I'd be lying face down in some river
Waiting Angels to take me back home

Once again we sail home to Sarasota
The ocean awash the gunwale
And she still keeps her head above water
Guess we'll all live to tell this tale

Once again we sail home to Sarasota
The ocean awash the gunwale
And she still keeps her head above water
Guess we'll all live to tell this tale

RIP Dan. He was a golfer that took his clubs with him when he was touring with Dickey Betts. When they had a show in Waupaca WI a few years ago, he golfed at FoxFire where I was a member.

I got to see Dan from about 3 feet away at a couple of Dickey Betts' gigs. Great guitarist and a fantastic human being. I don't know what Dickey will do without his calming vibe.

RIP Dangerous Dan
