Altec 19's - just bought from original owner

I can vouch for him...lol

Buy her flowers! Take her to dinner! Cook breakfast for her! Not that you would'nt do those things anyway.....the point is BOW to the master any way you can to keep them!:D

I'm a single man and I too have M19's so I do not have the WAF issue but I can still relate to all those that do because if my EX & I were still together, no WAY would she allow 19's in the living room.

Congrats on getting your Altecs!:thmbsp:

I can vouch for him...lol I had 2 par and ALMOST , well came 1 hair away from doing my own laundry again...lol Now I have 1 pair + some other Altecs I love... GREAT find and good luck... I see that someone chimed about the diaphragms a Dwojo fixing them...BUT If you want to just toss them away, throw them my way...:) I also seen where he suggested a guy that does Altec foam.... Not sure what he uses BUT I have seen the guys that are on E BAY !!!!!!!!!!!!! WAY WAY wrong material wrong kind of foam, they look sweet as heck, but its the wrong foam. I bought the right stuff myself from a foam company and they charged me 3 dollars per speaker plus shipping.!! THEN I bought a sheet of the stuff.... 15' by 15' HAVENT a clue what to do with that much foam....lol:scratch2: love me Altecs :thmbsp: mj

How far can those diaphrams move up and down, just a bit worried about the wire not being flexable enought.

They don't move much, the flexing on a repaired one actually has less tension and causes some to say the repaired phragms sound better?? :scratch2:

Nice score on the 19's. I had a Pair i bought brand new for 1100. Great speakers. My set up was Altec A7X pair (same drivers) next to the 19's in front and a pair of dual scoop jbl bins (a7 drivers0 on the side of the room. Total 8 15" woofs and 6 horns 511-811. All had Tangerine phase plugs. 16x20 room. We used to drive the hell out of them also.
My friend had the 1236 sysyems which were with the aluminum dust caps and symbiotic diaphragms in his bed room driven by a Phase Linear 700B. (clipps at 625 a channel). And drove the amp to rated alot.
Altecs are great and to me sound better then L-300 especially the drivers/horns Much more natural sound. Cheers

Welcome to the group- I got my 19's about a year ago, a life long endevor to acquure them!
I completely rebuilt mine, the walnut cabs were needing a rebuilt and a refinish so I went ALL out! I posted a thread about it last year and received a lot of help and great advice.
I ended up putting in the upgraded xover networksm diffraction foam around the horns, and loads of other things like solid wood toe boards and carpet casters to mover them around on. They look really nice and sound most exceptional!! Zilch posted the modified xover at the Lansing Heritage site and it made a really good differance in the sound.
I wish you good luck ingetting yours restored. There are several great things you can do to ramp them up. Once you have the horns and drivers squared away then you can add diffraction foams, etc. I replaced the fibergalss in mine with wavy 1.5" foam batts for a better sound as well.
