Altec 353A tube amp from 1959

There's one of these available locally. Wondering if anyone has heard this and can comment on the sound quality compared to, say, a similar Scott or Fisher? Marantz 8b?

It has three channels, which I find interesting. :scratch2:

Here's the deal with three channel tube amps that I've found. Most of them have one large OPT that is PP for the low frequencies. Then they have two smaller OPTs many times single ended, for the highs. It could be cool if you wanted a dedicated sub channel, but here's the rub. In an effort to save costs, the high frequency TXs won't go low enough to run successfully on any speakers, and the low OPT won't go high enough. I tend to avoid three channel amps completely.

The 353A is a stereo amp w/ a pair of 6L6's per side feeding Peerless iron. I'm not sure what the 3 channel stereo matrixing feature is all about, but the amp has very hifi potential.:yes:

It's an integrated, so my guess would be that it's a summed output pulled from the signal before the output stage, with a jack to feed an external mono amp.
