Altec 416A Re-Cone!

dnpainting

Super Member
A while back I blew a 416A woofer, I finally purchased 3 re-cone kits from GPA, I also have 2 803B woofers to do as well. Bill is a fantastic person to deal with. He sent everything needed to do this. I know I should have paid the extra and just had Bill do them and have the Alnico's charged but I just could not afford to have GPA do them. Anyways, I am pretty happy with the outcome of my first ever re-cone. And yes, I pulled the shims. Here are some pictures:

Nothing to lose sleep over. If you should discover or decide down the road that a re-mag is in order, it can be done without upsetting your new cones.

Thank you Zonker92!
bowtie427ss, thank you for the recharge info, I thought they had to remove the cones to recharge, good to know.

Now I need to recone the 2 803B frames I have and re-build my dad's Altec cabinets (see avatar). He had to turn his Capistano's upright so they took up less room at his house. In doing this, 20+yrs ago, the walnut tops and legs were lost. they still sound great the way they stand except the horn is upright as well and off to one side.
