Altec 417-8c in Super Heresy?

Recently pulled a pair of Heresy 1s out of a back closet and plan to upgrade them to Super Heresy 1.0. Was about to order a pair of Delta Pro 12As when I remembered I had 2 Altec 417-8c's lurking in the same closet (it's an awesome closet). Any suggestions on how best to audition these in the Heresy's, in particular regarding crossover tweaks? I currently have Type C modified to Type E. The other drivers are K-77 tweeter and K-56 squawker. Thx!

Found this:
Altec Lansing 417-8C 12" Musical Instrument Guitar Speaker. The overall condition is very good with no rips or repairs. Speaker is in good working order and sounds fantastic. Rated at 75 watts. Frequency response is 60-8000 Hz. Impedance is 8 ohms.
No personal experience with the driver, but it sounds like you have a fun closet to know the location of :)

If go to an Altec woofer you might as well go Altec all the way, I suggest 802 or 902 compression drivers on the MR 931 Mantaray horn. Use the Altec 30923 EQ circuit on a 1500hz 1st order crossover and you'll have a simple 2-way with extended highs. Hell, I've seen several supposed Klipschs that were Altecs in Klipsch boxes by the time a fella was done modding.

oooooo - lovely! I have a pair of 511 horns no drivers. They're huge and, as I understand, untamable.

They're easily tamed, the actual problem isn't taming the horn but taming the compression driver;compression drivers, any brand, usually have a rising power response and then a roll off after 4Khz. Use the 30923 compensation circuit and you'll get flat and extended response. Better yet get a WiiM Ultra and use the DSP. The biggest problem with the 511 and 811 is that they're out of fashion. Over the years I've use many 1" horns by Altec, Emilar, Klipsch Pro, EV, McCauley, Edgar, PS Audio, JBL, B&C etc. and in the end came back to the 511 and MR931 when using a 1" horn.

My opinion and experience, not the word from Sinai.

If you port a 417 properly in a 5 cu ft box they are flat to 40 HZ then start rolling off rapidly below that. Not ported their response starts rolling off above 60' hz. They will handle a bit more power than a standard Hersey woofer, but other wise porting like the new MK IV Hersey is the only answer.IMG_0375.jpeg
