Altec 755e

Hi, just acquired a pair of Altec 755e drivers. Unfortunately both cones are severely damaged. Speakers both sound fine, coils apparently good.
Question is, can I replace just the cones?

Any input or advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.

CAll Great Plains Acoustics. I think thats there new name.

I would say no, but they may have a solution. I wonder if the two Sisters Catholic School sanctuaries still have their two column speakers with 6 755 E in each column speaker. I know their Toa amps have been replaced. The 755E was probably the second best 8" speaker I ever heard. Bozak B-800 A full range, sounded better as did JBL 8" full range about the same if slightly worse and wasn't as efficient. Neither was the Bozak . The idea a 755E was capable of putting out 14,000 HZ was a joke.

Sorry to see this. Unfortunately, I doubt if GPA has original cone kits for the 755E but it's worth trying.

AFAIK, there are no known source for original cones for the 755A, C and E unless you get lucky with NOS samples.

Back in the late 90s, I got a chance to listen to a pair of 755As that were re-coned with supposedly original 755C cone kits. The sound was worse than my 755Cs and Es.

Since the voice coils are intact in your pair, if I were in your shoes, I'd carefully mend the original 755E cones using diluted paper glue like white Elmer's.

Good luck and once you get them sorted, try them on an open baffle, 2 cf or Silbatone box.

As you can see, I love Altec 755s!

Thanks the one pictured is the far least damaged of the two. The other is pretty sad. I sold them online. Hope someone can bring them back to life.

If you get on Reverb, there is a seller who has 755 cones. You may reach out to them to see if they're original or aftermarket, and get any other information.
