Altec 816a / 1235 thoughts ??

I just picked a bunch of Altec gear. Set of 511 horns with 808-8a's. They are mounted in separate cabinets and have had silicone added to help damped. From what I can tell a set of 816a cabinets (painted black), one with a 421-8h and the other with a JBL D130f (16 ohm). Set of Altec 809-8a crossovers.

Basically a set of 1235's from what I can tell.

What are the thoughts on this set up? Worth finding a matched set of Altec 15's? Any good for home audio use ?

Are those the ones from New York that were listed on ebay? The 816's were a pink color and the others looked like the carpet was growing?

Looks like that stuff was used as sound reinforcement gear. Butt a lot of guys here like the 421 for home use, it puts out some decent bass, and the d-130 should be good in that department too. The only thing i see you may have to change for home use is the crossover. build yourself one or look for an N-801-8A. other than that ill bet that equipment will surprise you, in a good way. Or ebay those woofers and buy yourself a set of matching 416s

Ah...so that's why you have a single D130F.

Interesting PA cabinets, for sure. How do they sound?

Hi Homer, Yes. Nice gear. The 808 drivers are excellent especially if they have the original Symbiotic diaphram. You definetly want to match yer 421 as the D-130 at 16 ohm will not make the bass. 8 ohm load needs to match too. The D-130's are selling for top dollar on Ebay now.
