Altec 846a Valencia

Is anyone still following this thread ?

I have a pair of these in rough cosmetic shape but sound great.

I try to follow the lingo you guys use in describing the different speakers and I simply don't follow/get what you mean. It is also hard for me to hear a major difference between speakers (Unless they are real bad/cheap quality).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Let's start with this, often times the differences in sound that you will see being discussed are very subtle, or small differences, differences that many casual listeners and non-audio enthusiasts may not notice or care about.

Consider that in a case where a distinct and immediate difference is heard between two different speakers, it is likely that one of those speakers is either flawed or being used in an improper setup/configuration, with flawed meaning that it's presentation lacks moderate or high fidelity.

A little decoding for the post you quoted:

SS amps = solid state amplification, all transistors as opposed to their vacuum tube predecessors.

Crites = Bob Crites, A professional clinician of Klipsch speakers. He's built a cottage industry around supplying parts and info for the restoration and upgrading of heritage Klipsch speakers. One such common upgrade is Ti(titanium) diaphragms for the T-35/K-77 tweeter as mentioned in your quoted post.

If you want to know, just ask. Somebody here will likely have the answer.

Thanks for the reply.

So I have few pairs of speakers, the Altec Valencias, Klipsch Heresey, a pair of B&W medium sized ones (I don't recall the model). And they all sound great. Perhaps I need a properly set up room to hear the differences between these speakers.

What I was referring to by lingo is when people describe the sound differences between speakers or T. tables....has a sweet sound or has a bunch or something....what does that mean and how do you define it or measure it. Since different people hear different things I am sure.

Thank you.

Thank you.

There are a couple publications that explain what almost all of the common (and uncommon) terms mean. There was a thread on this.

And in most cases, it actually has little to do with one's hearing.
