These Altec speakers sat in my shed for the last 10-15 years. I took them out last weekend and refinished the cabinets. The grill cloth came in today, so I finished them. They are not that red, something about the lighting and my phone camera did that. Sitting along side my JBL L100 and JBL C50 Olympus speakers.

They use the Altec 420Y Biflex woofers. I added Klipsch K77 tweeters for a better high end.

Old post i understand, so perhaps no longer followed. Worth a try!
I picked up a set of these same speakers. No crossovers? Was not aware there was a tweeter stratled on the frame.
Given that you included a k77/t35 for a tweeter, may i ask how you incorperated it with no xover?
So this 420Y is then a full range driver?

Thank you for any insight!

Somewhere on the speaker there is a capacitor that does act as a passive x-over just for the tweeter. The Woofer runs full range.

At the very least get new caps so you don't fry the no longer available EV diaframs. maybe 1.0 -1.5uf probably would want an L-PAD as well to adjust the much higher efficiency tweeters to the Woofers. the correct ev 3500 hz xovers X36 , are pretty inexpensive on the bay

Right? The sensitivity of the t35 os so high i will want to reduce its volume with an l pad.
Can i be assured the freq cutoff of the capacitor will be high enough to keep it oit of the danger zone?
Not sure what capacitance is used for what freq but if memory serves the t35 isnt meant for under 4k
I saw a chart on google for calculations but it was confusing.

also depends if your t35's are 8 most common or 16 ohms, some older ones.
its why I suggested 1 to 1.5uf that might be too high a cut off. caps that small are pretty cheap. so start out with 1.0 highest, and add .5's till they sound right.
the higher uf's you go the lower the freq's will get to the tweets. don't go crazy with high power and play around.
or just get the EV X36 xovers they are made to work with theT-35's
they have a 12 DB cut off, a simple cap is only a 6db low pass cut off

Ok i will see what i have. 4 pairs or 5 from various speakers through the years. Speakerlab, Klipsch ect.
I keep them around for replacement diaphragms for my t350's which i run in Belle. Ive got square and round magnet, as well as the EV butt cheek ones.
Seems i have a single x36 xover as well. And a Wolverine cr 35 that is also 3500 cps like the x35, but its 8 ohm where the x36 is 1620210329_222905.jpg

T350'S NICE go for big coin, I like the st350a but cheeks. Hang on to those replacements diaphragms, NLA
