The cabinets look very nice.

If they were within driving distance of me, i'd make casual contact with the seller flipper, feel him out a bit under the guise that they're out of my price range. Wait him out a bit, then make a ~ 1000 cash offer, or just politely ask him to contact me if they ever make it down into the 1k range.

Yeah they look to be really clean. I’ll contact the guy and keep an eye on them.

Based on their size, and the crappy vintage audio market in this area, 1k$ might be a realistic price.

I don’t have any experience with the 411 woofers, but they would be interesting to play around with.

Those are actually 413 woofers. Sort of odd ducks. But, their scarcity is eventually going to become a more significant driver of value.
 
Gotcha. So what’s the difference between the 411 and 413? They are similar in construction right? 4” VC?
 
I was originally basing my 411 comment on this page, but now I see it says “411 type” which probably means 413. :)

The 411, is very similar to the LF portion of the 616, shares the same frame even, which you know is also similar to an LE15.

The 413 is built from mostly off the shelf Altec components. It's a 15 inch rear mount basket, same as the earlier 416's and 515's, 3 inch voice coil, big ferrite magnet(prolly a la 421), and the dust cap is actually about 1/8 inch thick aluminum to add mass. It likely handles the lowest octaves very well. But, it won't have the kind of technicolor midrange of the other more common Altec woofers.

Interesting. I’m not sure I would like it then. I’m willing to give up some low bass to get that great midrange/midbass.

It seems like the whole ad (the Altec ad I copied above) for the 875a is a little odd then.

It's a series of woofers Altec developed in the very early 70's specifically for sealed box systems. They combined a powerful motor with low mechanical damping force and high excursion, and high power handling. At the time they were probably intended to compliment the higher power solid state gear that was becoming more popular.
 
They state the dynamic force like its some kind of measurement in the ad.

The 411-8a woofer weighs over 20 lbs I believe. So where do the 14 and 16 lbs numbers come from?

Maybe they are talking about the 411/413 motor assembly’s

I hope seller flipper whatever got every bit or close to his asking price. Very fine looking set of Altec’s don’t come cheap.

that said I loathe the pickup truck flipper pics.
 
Yeah you can tell by the garage pic that the guy is into audio. A bunch of speakers and speaker parts laying around.

Like a lot of Florida, Palm Coast has a bunch of retirees that moved down from up north. These speakers could very well have been purchased at an estate sale. Hence the truck pics....

I refuse to even show interest, unless the asking price proportionately reflects their low levels of interest, and expertise. It never does.

I'd rather reward those who are willing to do some work and reflect a little pride.

But, i'm weird like that. ;)
 
I can definitely appreciate flippers more that have some interest in audio. Who aren’t just flipping because they know some of this stuff is worth money.

There were some KLH model 6 on CL recently for 50$. Bad pics and very little info. By the time I contacted the guy they were gone.

So I see the same speakers up on CL yesterday. Now the cabs have been refinished (not a pro job, just some Howard’s applied probably), and the grill cloth replaced. Plus there are lots of pics showing all the drivers are original. He is asking 150$, and I think that is fair for the work he put in.
